BMW Shift Knobs Interchangeable?

My 10 year old old shift knob trim is peeling and cracking. Will other model BMW automatic shift knobs fit an e90 with no problem? Please advise.

Thanks. I'm looking at a used e39 non electrical automatic shift knob.
