E90 Comfort Access

Hi,
Just purchased my first E90 Comfort Access is not working on the driver's door and I think that it is causing my battery to drain flat in a few days of not driving the car

Does anyone know the fuse to pull? I'd be happy to use the keyfob and not have the worry of whether the car will start.

Thanks!

Sure it's not your Key FOB battery, mine was playing up like that, I changed the battery and it's been great.

As for a battery drain issue, that's hard to say.

Hi EB,
I've already changed the fob batteries on both remotes. The CA system works fine with ethe passenger door, boot and start button, so that's the reason I think it may have something to do with the driver's door handle.

Do you know where the fuse is located for the CA system?

Thanks!

Have the dealer do a sensor diagnostic on the car. If one of the sensors is misbehaving it will show up. In some cases, if work was done on the car a sensor may have been unplugged and not re-connected.

In either case you'll know if there's a bad sensor or a disconnected one.

As a last ditch, you can open up the door and check the connectors on the handle. Clean it all up with contact cleaner and put some dielectric on the plugs and re-connect.

If all that doesn't work, you can try a new handle, they aren't that much.

Is your door handle warm? I remember reading that the comfort acces handles can develop a short and drain the battery. Water somehow gets into the handle, onto the circuit board, and can cause a short. The door handle usually will not work, be warm to the touch, cause battery drain.

Edit: here it is
This person had the same issue http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=751845

You kids and your fancy technology. Back in my day we had to press a button to unlock our doors!

My car is at the spa* so I have 328i loaner right now with 380 miles on it. No comfort access suuuuuuuuuucks. Seems so annoying to have to fish the keys out of my pocket to press a button then put the keys right back. I didn't mind old-old-school of pulling the key, pressing to unlock the doors, then putting the key in the ignition. But with keyless push-button start, having to unlock the doors with the fob seems like inconvenience for the sake of it #addcomfortaccess

I do enjoy just walking up to my car, opening the door and pushing the button without ever needing the keys out.

Most comfort access issues are caused by a dying car battery.

Since you mentioned that your car battery dies after a few days, this is likely the issue in your case.

I feel your pain. I am supposed to have CA, at least that's what the notches on the door handle tells me, but even after a swapped battery I still got nothing.. I'm saddened.

LOL, I remember those days and without a fob or CA you had to stick your key in the keyhole on the outside of the door to unlock it. And god forbid if it was winter and the lock was frozen....................

I remember when central locking was the best thing ever... unlock one door with the key in the door and the rest open too? WITCHCRAFT! But so much better than doing the octopus dance trying to unlock all the doors manually inside while your passengers stand the rain.

Brand new battery fitted in both the car and remote. Still the same issue. I have also checked the door handle and it's far from warm, which suggests it's not shorting?

CA is on the back burner now as I have the dreaded ELV steering fault. New steering column ordered. Thanks for the replies guys.

Google BMW VIN Decoder. Choose one and you'll see your options from the factory.

If Comfort Access is listed, it could be as simple as using Carly to turn it on.

If you use the remote to unlock, then lock the door, will the door then unlock with comfort access?

Does the car start with comfort access? Does the car start with the key in the key slot? Does the ELV light go away after you insert the key in the key slot?

All the problems you seem to have could be battery related. http://www.import-car.com/tech-tip-b...tart-no-crank/

Another thing to check is the negative battery cable, there was a recall, maybe your car was affected, but the repair wasn't performed.
Lots of good questions and ideas. I'll check and report back on Sunday because I'm currently away and the car is sadly at home because it could not be driven due to the Elv steering lock being jammed on

I can definitely answer that the CA start works. The doors are playing up and all dp not work, even the boot. The battery was replaced by myself and we registered it using Rheingold.
Thanks
