So I got the red padlock steering wheel icon and my car would not start no matter what I tried. I have a 2007 e92 335i auto w sport pkg. so I get the car towed to the dealership and now they said I have to replace my whole upper steering column assembly for a whopping $1600 for parts and labor. Does anyone know if that is the current range or if the dealer ha any wiggle room to give me a discount?

There are heaps of threads on this problem here on the forum
Most describe how to fix this without replacing the assembly
I would see if there are things the dealer can check for you before spending big,,, unless its too late of course

Yea ice tried almost everything and it didn't work. The only thing I wasn't able to do was clear the code.

I bought an emulator and it worked perfect, you need to unlock the steering lock prior to fitting it though

Do you have a link to this "emulator"?

It turns out that they updated the software. The bill went from $1700 to $300. The only reason j saved that was I mentioned to them about the TsB and if they could check that first which they did.
