Tesla Model 3 unveiled today...
Done via live webcast and the order book opens immediately... Anyone likely to be tempted?
I have a mate who loves all things trendy and he's thinking of reserving one to replace his Evoque. Probably makes sense given he never leaves the south east of England.

For those who don't know the Model 3 is expected to be a compact exec sized car, and hence a 3 series competitor, albeit at the upper end of the range.

By my reckoning you need to be awake at around 4am tomorrow morning.
I won't be waiting up, but I have expressed an interest with Tesla. If it gets the P85+ or P90 motor it will be a beast. Supercharger not too far away from me.

From some angles it looks great, but from others it looks a bit weird and bulbous. So, can't say I'm feeling an irresistible urge to go get one.

Not a fan. Don't like any of it, especially the interior.
I'm old fashioned, I like the dash to look like an aircraft cockpit. Makes me feel like my money has been well spent on gadgets I'll never use. I don't particularly like using an iPad full stop, let along when trying to drive a car at the same time. (You'd never guess I'm only 25) |

So, if one puts a $1000 deposit now and you're 130,000th (or so) in line for a car that is 2 years out from a company that is notoriously late on all of its products, I'm thinking one would get delivery around 2021. Right when the LCI G20 will be shipping.

The problem with the 0-60 times for these cars. Is no owner every makes use of them after day one. Because if they do, it clobbers the range.

But nevertheless it does say something about how far they have come in so little time. Meanwhile, I'd like to think they could a proper instrument panel directly ahead of the driver (Unless they are going to do HUD but even that shouldn't replace conventional instruments ahead of the driver. (Even if the original Mini and 2002 Nissan Primera had their instruments in the centre!) Tesla do have a reputation for listening to and acting on feedback, but whether that could extend to a dashboard change at this stage is anyone's guess. Other than that, if the next level up in terms of range (and in tesla that usually also means performance) is sensibly priced, it will make the competition take note. |

Perhaps I'm buying it because it will only be doing max 100 mile/day trips, transport my family in 5 star safety without choking the pedestrians next to me, pull up in my garage and plug into the solar panel on the roof with the added bonus of being 4wd and extremely nippy. Then take my Porsche out when I want fun. But that wouldn't make me a car enthusiast would it.. |

At $35k that's good value in the states and if you only do short trips then the range isn't an issue, Mrs Wills does 30 miles a week so I guess this would be perfect for her then again so would a bus pass!
