Sh!t Brakes
Anyone else think the the brakes on the M Sport+ (Blue Callipers) are a bit shite?
Just done 4K miles in my 330D F31, no sign of improvement. |

My theory is that you get more feedback, they are more sensitive rather than on/off. So you have to press harder to stop quickly. So they feel a bit soft. Just my theory!

Yes I am not impressed.. Seems to be a real lack of bite..... I had a boggo 320d and the breaks nearly put me thru the screen..... Night and day compared to my 335d m sport

Mine always seemed to have a soft top to the pedal travel but plenty power when needed, and it took track work to get fade.
I changed the fluid to a dot 5.1 and put on braids brake hoses and that didn't help the initial softness but massively reduced fade on track. But I've now got EBC yellow stuff pads on and the brakes feel so much better, and much more like the M3 I drove at brands hatch. Much more initial bite, even more power and retardation for a big stop and I expect even more fade resistance on track.

I Prefer the standard brakes. M Sport + ones are ultimately more powerful but I think the initial bite and feel of the standard brakes is loads better.

Braided lines and Yellow Stuff pads increase the feel and linearity through he pedal. Still possible to overheat the pads though, as I found out after a particularly 'spirited' run with a '64 S3 saloon the other day.
And no, he couldn't drop me. Should've seen the look on his face as he pulled in to the inside lane of the dual carriageway and saw a diesel estate fly past. Priceless

have to say the AUC 435i GC i bought was obviously configured by the dealer not me. I didn't really have any opinions on the brakes other than i liked the colour of the callipers. have to say although i'm only 400 odd miles in from new they seem ok....i'm not the greatest "race" driver type but compared to the brakes in the F15 X5 they seem just as powerful if not more so. Cannot say I'm disappointed. they certainly feel a lot better than the standard brakes on the 125d we part-ex'd

Interesting mixed views here. Maybe naively I thought that the breaking would be astonishing, not so, my previously BM's have been fine with the standard setup both the 320D Coupe and 325D. Sometimes if some stops quickly it does sh!t me up because it doesn't inspire me the confidence that's it's going to stop - although it does. May get them checked.

We have one car with the M Sport brakes 330d, and one without. With out a doubt the one with the bigger brakes give better stopping performance and confidence. Feel through the pedal is similar in both. The M Sport brakes did take a while to bed in though.

Thanks Scott, do you know how many miles roughly? Our Q5 is so much better and the tank has to be 2.5 tonnes, and the Cooper S, well that stops on a six pence.

I had the same problem with my E92 335i , poor brakes and the new 435i with M sport brakes are a better system than the old one however it is still lacking. It seems you have to push it really far down to make sure it stops(it seems when hard braking , its loosing grip kinda). Nothing that a change of EBC yellow pads and new hoses wont sort out!

Except for the low speed squeal on mine, I don't have a problem with them, they are progressive and powerful enough, don't want too much bite initially and fast driving is all about reading the road and planning which includes how to use your brakes.
I know it goes against common thinking, just my opinion. Lol. |

Yep, that's the next thing on the list
I've already got the pressure bleeder etc, so an easy job.

Are you sure you haven't cooked them early on in their life? Did you bed them in for the first 500 miles? Or have you just used them as you would any other car? My M performance brakes are very keen, I hardly have to press the peddle for them to stop me, and i'm still bedding them in. Only done 230 mile so far.
