Views on replacing Bridgestones

I'm running winter wheels at the moment and will probably revert to summer tyres in the next few weeks. However, they're the dreaded Bridgestones and I'm sort of depressed at the thought of going back to their crashy ride; the winters have been a notable improvement - still RFTs, but Pirelli SottoZeros. So, I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and change the summer tyres for some decent rubber.

I'm not looking for out-and-out performance - noise and at least some compliancy are more important. I'm thinking going non-RFT, but I hear relatively good things here about the Goodyear RFTs so I'm not sure.

Ideas?

From what I hear the Goodyear run-flats are an improvement over the Bridgestones but when I got rid of the latter I opted for conventional Goodyear AS2's; no regrets whatsoever!

Drop the runflats. Everyone will tell you the same thing, it drops weight and it also provides better ride quality, also less expensive.

I'm running Continental DWS at the moment (ultra performance all season) and I have about 40,000KM on them, and still have around 75% tread left.

They're quiet, comfortable on the highway, and way less harsh than the RFTs.

I was in a similar position a few weeks back, as needed to change rears. I went for the GY F1 AS2's, so far no complaints. Thread here for info

If you want the best all round tyre for everything except road noise then get Michelin PSS!

That's interesting as I though all came with Bridgestone now?

Go for conventional tyres - anything in the Top 5 of the EVO tyre test should be fine fir your needs. Continental Sport Contact 5 came out tops last time (from memory).

What's the deal with handing the car back with non runflats? I have the S001s and will probably need tyres before the summer. I'm thinking of getting a set of non runflats. Am I likely to get grief from the dealer when I trade in the car again as in ''We're going to need to knock off some money as we'll need to fit a set of runflats before we can sell the car"

Same

I had only done 15000 on the Bridgestones but was getting increasingly irritated by the tyre roar

Have replaced with the Eagle F1 Asymmetrics 2 RFTs and even though I've hardly done any mileage yet, I can tell that they offer more feel and are quieter

Amazing how much tyres at the same price point can differ.....

Moved our E91 to conventional tyres and traded it back to a BMW main dealer without a problem!

Interesting thread as I decided to just keep Bridgestones that came with the car. Have had no prior experience with any RFTs and my old m135i was on MPSS. What I can say, that 3er makes more tyre noise!

Would be interested to actually feel the difference that a set of nice tyres make monkeyninja keep us posted about your findings as we probably drive on the same roads

My 30d arrived two weeks ago with Bridgestones, the car is so quiet so the only thing I do hear is the tyres but I have generally found it acceptable, only the odd stretch of bad tarmac causing roar.

I wonder if this will change after a few thousand miles however.

If some of you change to non RFT what do you do about carrying a spare? Or do you just carry a can of tyre weld or something?

Gonna ditch mine next week... 18 inch staggered Continental RF.
I might risk 4 part worn non runflats to see if there is an improvement
rather than shelling out £600 for new rubber and there being no difference
Much to the disgust of many I have a spare
Although It takes up a bit of room its a price I am willing to pay

Most of us have slime, they do a kit with a pump if you don't already have one: Slime 1800330 10914 Tyre Repair Set for Automobile Tyres with Dispensor https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003QHY0..._5zw7wbPHFM8VV

Where did you buy your Asymmetric 3's? I'd heard that they were coming out but couldn't find anywhere which was selling the mixed 19" set up I need..

You'd be as well carrying some sticky string as well as slime or the like, if you are thinking of using non-runflats. I have used these kits on motorcycle tyres and they really work. Forget the glue. You just ream out the hole after removing the cause of the puncture, thread the sticky string through the needle, push the string through the hole and pull it back out again (this means you have FOUR bits of string sealing the hole). Cut off the excess, reinflate and bob's your uncle.
