Replacing Tire & Brake Help for F30. A lot of questions!
I'm a complete newbie to all this... I'm hoping someone can take the time to answer my questions! I'm interested in changing my wheels and possibly breaks. I looked at the sticky post and I don't quite understand the terminology used.
Standard factory wheels offsets:•18" Double Spoke Style 400M (M Sport wheels) - 18x8" ET34 225/45-18 front / 18x8.5" ET47 255/40-18 rear •18" Double Spoke Style 397 (Sport Line wheels) - 18x8" ET34 •19" Double Spoke Style 401 - 19x8" ET36 225/40/R19 front / 19x8.5" ET47 255/35/R19 rear •20" Cross Spoke Style 404 - 20x8" ET36 225/35/R20 front / 20x8.5" ET47 255/30/R20 rear •20" M Double Spoke Style 405 - 20x8" ET36 225/35/R20 front / 20x8.5" ET47 255/30/R20 rear Brake sizes: 328i front brakes: 12.3" / rear - 11.8". 328i M sport brakes - front: 13.4" / rear: 13.6" 335i front brakes: 13.4" 335i M sport brakes - front: 14.6" front / rear: 13.6" rear I'm having trouble understanding what all this means. What is an offset? I do see that these are particular BMW wheels. Are all of these compatible with any of the F30s? I have the 2013 328i Modern line and am particularly interested in the 405 and 404 wheels. Also, are there any cheap alternatives of these particular models? Since the BMW versions are unbelievably expensive. How does the tire pressure sensors play into all of these? What additional steps need to be taken to ensure that they work with the new tires/wheels? I ask in the hopes that the wheels on these more advanced cars might be as simple as switching them out like older cars! In terms of breaks... I am interested in getting different breaks but may not. Is it required to get larger beaks when getting larger wheels? Is the M sport break set compatible with my f30 since I don't have the sport, but the modern line? Similarly, are there any cheaper alternatives. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Fantastic. They have a ton of resources to help me figure out how this stuff works!
How do the air pressure and break sensors come into play when upgrading wheels & tires and breaks? Are the sensors independent from the wheels and breaks so they can be changed and still function or are they addition parts that are inside the respective parts? |

The TPMS is in the valve stem and has to be switched over if you change wheels/tires. |
