New m235i coilover opinions

I officially have converted to a 2 guy. So now the project begins. I've been looking into coilovers (non-adaptive) and would like some feedback from you guys. Not trying to get to expensive...something around the 1g region.

Depends what you are looking for... If its performance gains and you are only willing to spend 1000$ my recommendation would be to stay stock and spend the money else where.

Not worried about performance. It's my daily driver so something that looks aggressive while still maintaining comfort.

So what you are saying is that you are willing to sacrifice performance for looks? Because if you are spending < $1,000 on coils, that is what will happen. The stock suspension on this car might not look super aggro, but it is pretty damn good (performance wise) in stock form. You would need to get a relatively expensive coilover setup to beat the stock suspension in my experience.

A $1,000 coilover setup will compromise ride quality, performance, and reliability of the suspension including the coilovers themselves.

Didn't mean to offend. If you want a more aggressive look, more power to you. Have you thought about the Dinan springs? They are well regarded around here, give a nice drop, and don't harm ride quality too much.

I would agree Dinan springs are your best bet. modest drop but suspension feels good, you go any lower on stock struts and the ride is not so great.

There are affordable coil overs, but that being said, to properly install, setup and delete or code out the edc controls your going to be over budget.

Personal opinion...with ~$1k coilovers you're only sacrificing some ride quality (can still soften it for the street though). 1 way coilovers around $1k will be still be a *performance* improvement over stock suspension in my opinion.

Megan coilovers would be the only brand I would go with in that price range. If you want to spend a bit more look at BC coilovers. With BC you can also upgrade to Swift springs. Also you can customize your spring rates depending on what you want your setup to be based on tire compound, square fitment, etc.

I've ran $1000-$1500 coils on like my last 4 or 5 cars. Lots of track duty and no issues. I think anything over $2k and your ROI starts to diminish.

Just my opinion, but our stock suspension is overrated. I currently have H&R springs (did it as a stop gap while I get other things done to the car) and they are no improvement over OEM setup other than looks.

I agree, I run Meagan ez street, track the hell out of them.
You can go up in there coil over Line, but you end up in linear springs, which are horrid on the road.

Nice thing about there coilovers are that they are all has, which is really what you need for good setup. Unless your going full on JRZ, remote setup, I cant imagine spending the extra money. Even then your going to have to be an amazing driver, and why would you be using a 2r at that point. Plus there very cheap to replace if you blow a shock.

Used to run Megan (track model I believe) on my s2000 for a few years. No issues at all. It was my daily driver and I would run 1:25's in the car at Streets of Willow. Side note; Megan comes from the same factory as Apexi (for those that know about JDM) uses for their entry level coilover.

Fortune Auto is a good <$2k coilover too, but they don't do anything for our cars yet. They were my first choice. I will go with BC coils and custom swift springs and rate when the time comes. Ran this setup on my last two cars (EvoX and 370z NISMO) Comes with camber plates too...

Sorry, no experience with them. I have heard of them though. Do they offer something for us?

Coilovers and brake pad advice (when it comes to tracking) is something you should always take with a grain of salt in my opinion....

ST do offer an M235i setup. EAS have installed it on someones EBII car out in california who was running a BBS setup also.

But I believe they have to code out EDC so you lose adaptive suspension.

EAS is local to me. I'll see if I can check them out in person when I go there tomorrow for some other work.

You lose the adaptive suspension with any coilover.

EDIT: Just checked ST's website. I don't think the coilovers they offer for us allow for damping adjustment.

Yep except for KW DDC setup, that retains adaptive suspension, as it has oem connectors to sync up to.

ST's coils are actually made by KW, but you are correct, they dont offer any dampening adjustment.

Basically, for $1000, there is no coilover on the market that even exists for multi-adjustable or adaptive suspension. If i were you i'd go dinan springs and new bump stops.

Does the F22 use the same coilovers as the F30 (3 series)?
