Insurance broker needed before 9am tomorrow

I desperately need to find an insurance broker or cost effective online site before 9am tomorrow who can sort me out insurance for my new car. The car is an M5 competition pack and is a 2 1/2 hour drive from home, so I'll be on the road by 6:30am to collect it at 9am.

I'm 40+, passed my test at 17, have 20+ years no claims and have had no accidents, claims, or points ever.

I got a quote for an M5 last month of £350 with a £250 excess from my current insurer, Admiral. This was more than the 335i, but still reasonable. I assumed the CP would only be slightly more... How wrong was I?

I called Admiral this afternoon, and for a CP car, they want £988 with a £500 compulsory excess and zero voluntary excess, but also want me to have a black box to track my driving. If I decline the black box, it will be around £150 more.

I've tried the comparison sites. Confused gives me 7 insurers that will quote for the competition pack car. Admiral's two policies around the same price as they quoted on the phone, then 5 more from "unknown" insurers ranging from £9,960 (£750xs) to £15,364 (£1,650xs) - yes, ten to fifteen thousand pounds a year. Meerkat dudes fared slightly better in the number of insurers, but the best was still over £900 with a £450xs, but no black box.

I've tried with and without my wife on the policy, with and without business use (just sdp and commuting) and the cheapest quotes are with both included.

Out of interest, I just put in a standard M5 and the first quote was £395 with a £160xs, so I can't understand went the CP makes so much difference.

BMW insurance were useless, they think from the registration number, the car is a Jahre, so couldn't quote.

I've re-quoted adding a tracker and apart from a few more insurers willing to quote, it made no, or very little, difference to the quotes.

Help!

Can you not get 7 days free insurance from BMW? This would give you more time?

BMW insurance couldn't quote because they think the car is a Jahre, so I can't get the free 7 day insurance!

The car is blue, the VIN and registration match the V5C, and this states it's an M5 competition pack car.

Will your existing insurance not give you 1 day policy?

I have done that for test drives without issue.

Personally I would look at using a broker by the sound of it.

Hi Paul. I . Can try and help tomorrow when next in office but just done a rough quote on Privilege insurance. As long as car is under £75k value they are quoting around £880 to £950 for this car with no black box.

Run a quote through direct and see. Had to guess at lots of stuff but at least they recognise the car.

Let me know if you need any more help.

If your stuck get a policy with esure or someone that you can pay monthly and cancel straight away. You will have to pay a month of a high premium but gives you time to find a sensible or specialist insurer.
Thats who I am with for our long term hire car as we can cancel at any time.

Just run one through Privilege, £602 with a £600 compulsory excess, protected NCD and legal protection included. esure can't quote due to the type of car.

I'll try and get my current insurer to do 1 day cover for collection. My concern was if I couldn't get a reasonable quote, I really wouldn't want the car as I didn't want to have a nanny device and also didn't want to pay the cost of a small hatchback a year for insurance.

A Plan gave me the best quote by far, I realise there's probably a few variables but worth a try.

Have you tried getting a quote for example in a couple weeks time? It might be high because you are trying to insure it tomorrow.

Like others have said get insured with the cheapest, monthly payments and pay for the first month and cancel within 14 days and they will charge you for the 14 days and give the rest back from that month.

You must be older than I though Paul to get it that cheap! I always found them good with my car and the Porsche I had so glad they can offer better quotes.

I hope you enjoy the day tomorrow. It's been a long time coming!

Might also be worth trying Direct Line as they are part of the same Group as Privilege, and they are cheaper on some quotes - more expensive on others.

Good luck.

I wish I had this problem . Look at it this way, it's only a months fuel....

Cheers all for the recommendations. I've just spoken with the sales advisor and put off collection until Saturday to give me time to try and sort something out.

amsbmw: I had a similar thought, so I tried getting one for a week's time from one of the sites and they quoted the same amount

Postcab: Tried Direct Line, about a fiver more than Privilege, but good call.

Mattyk: I do around 8k miles a year and I'm hoping to average 17mpg (I get 22 in the F30 335i and had 18 in the E92 330i) so hoping a months fuel isn't anywhere near the £600 mark, more like £180-£200.

Dicke: 41, but as you'll be aware there are so many variables use to calculate your risk. I personally think that letting MrsT_335i drive the car is more of a risk, but adding her drops the quote by around £60 so the insurers obviously know something I don't

dazzapb: BMW online thought car was a Jahre (I wish!) so I phoned and they said if that's what their system thinks the registration is, there's nothing they can do and they can't give me the 7 days insurance.

I'll be trying a broker first thing in the morning, but at least I've bought myself a day.

My SA is probably happy that he doesn't have to come in on his day off to do the handover and an extra bonus for Saturday is that I don't have to go and visit family

Another vote for A-Plan especially on something like that, and you speak to a proper person not a call centre robot.

They are the only ones who offered a realistic quote on mine with PPK as very few will touch an intercooler as a mod!

Just remember any option you have paid for as an extra need to be declared to direct line and they will charge you more as they are classified as modifications!!!
