AUC 335i or new 340i

Getting tired of the 330d sound track so had a test drive in a 2015 F31 335i this morning, well night & day is all I can say. Petrol so much more responsive, felt far more driveable and dare I say quicker, wish I did this when I was looking for the 330d!!

Liked the car, nice spec but felt it was a bit too much money really, for exactly the same car as I have except 1 year newer & the petrol engine. Interestingly enough a new same spec 340i touring although topping a retail of £47K in the end came down to £50/month more than the AUC with the dealer giving near on £8K off.

So to help me decide perhaps those who have gone from 330d F31 to the 335i or 340i could chip in with their thoughts on the potential change. I know it's subjective, but this forum is a wealth of info, so would be appreciated.

With only £8k off, I'm sure you could could get a new 340i for the price of the AUC monthly payments. Most on here seem to be getting nearer £10k off. Have you looked at C2C to get a baseline guide?

£8k discount is just the start. You need to push for £0 increase in your monthlies

New 340i every time, even if only for the extra warranty and speccing it exactly as you want (and the new car smell / experience (although that will depend a lot on the dealer). Also, you should be able to get more than £8K off I reckon - which with the better APR on new, rather than used, should mean that the monthlies are pretty much the same.

I was in a similar position, but without knowing about the deals on new, and paid £36k for an 8 month old 435D. Within a month I'd traded it in for a new 435D with a higher spec (and apart from the £2K i had to put in to cover the depreciation in the used and the fact that it had another driver on the V5 now) it cost me £5 a month more! I reckon that if I'd bought new from the start I'd have been paying less per month for a new car than I would have for a 6-12 month old used.

10k off would be an additional £2k off what OP has already achieved, which should also be roughly £50pm saving too.

so you should be able to get to the same monthly with some pushing

1. Spec car on BMW site - adjust mileage to what you will do - adjust term - get GFV - get PCP interest rate

2. Go on Coast2Coast - spec same car - get amount of discount

3. Go to http://www.pcpcal.co.uk/index.html - enter car cost, discount, term, GFV, APR % rate and it will give you a monthly figure. This site is near enough with it's calculations.

The only thing you can't factor in is your part x valuation.

You might be very surprised how cheap a new one is when comparing to AUC at their stupid 10.9% apr.........

Hope this helps

Never had a new car would be a nice feeling. If it works out the same as AUC it has to be a no brainer.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Now the question is - what are peoples views on going from 330d to 340i

That was my thinking too.

Late AUC cars seem to be so closely priced to the new deals available It seems mad not to go the new route + factor in deposit allowances/contributions.

Only real issue I can see is it looks like we have seen the lowest fuel prices for the moment. They do seem to be creeping up a bit. Small price to pay for that 40i sound though

I've been flummoxed by this for ages, so gonna ask. When I specced mine up back in 2013 I played with dozens of specs and looked at the impact on monthlies and adjusted deposit etc but nowadays the BMW site doesn't allow this. But your step 1 above suggests it does. Please can you advise how to get it showing finance (other than the unspeccable page here: http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/su...ailoffers.html )

Thanks in advance

it might work out the same per month.. but it depends if you are ever planning to pay the car off or not and how you are going to fund it - likes of Halifax do a PCP at around 3-4% APR so if you find a nice AUC that is 10k cheaper than a new one, it depends if you want shiny and new or not really..

Well coast2coast have a saving of £10864 on the new spec'd price so it works out less per month than the cost of the 1 year old 9K miles 2015 335i

Thanks for the help here.... lots of head scratching to do now

So now then who wants to buy a 2014 F31 330d with 20K miles & full spec

I have gone from a F30 330d to ordering a F36 440i. Fate forced the exchange but all I can say the 40i engine is incredible. The deals on 340i are very good and I wouldn't hesitate ordering new instead of AUC...if you can stomach the wait.

Just need to stick that in front of a dealer and see what they are prepared to do to win your business.

No problem - spec your car then click on "Buy" - you select a dealer and then it passes you off to the finance page.

Here you can play with the sliders for term and mileage. I wouldn't worry about deposit and monthlies as these are irrelevant for this exercise.

All you need to get is the Guaranteed Future Value - which is dependent on term/mileage from the text below (you will see it) and the APR percentage to be able to play on the PCP calculator (link in the above)

Hope this helps

Question 2 - what do you owe on it?

IE; are you in neg equity that will need to be factored into a new deal.......

No Negative equity .. dealer just wants to say that they'll cover the finance, so if I go with it, guess in the real world could sell for a little more perhaps.

Thanks I only drove the 335i & that was good so guess the 340i will be amazing.

BTW just looked at you sig car history... so much similar to me. I had the 350 Merc then the 330d, looked at & so nearly got the S4

I can only say all of the above. I started looking for a 330d touring with not too much extra and after being on here ended up ordering a 340i with a load of kit for cheaper than What 330s were coming in at!

It definately worked out cheaper buying new than nearly new.

Quite a few threads recently on this and for gods sake what ever you DO NOT ask for help when speccing a new car!

I am looking at going 330d to 340i, Tourer naturally.

As mentioned Coast 2 Coast have had some decent discounts, it was £10k, now I think it's around £9500.

Edit: £9970

Basically your dealer has to match or put something worthwhile on the table.

Have you thought about your options and of course the colour...
