Free mod (that I didn't want!)

Someone very kindly modified my car for free this morning by backing into it. In a car park, away from anyone else, gone for 10 minutes, no CCTV in sight, no note, usual story

Off to the dealers in a while to get a quote for fixing it, hopefully no more than a couple of hundred quid

I feel for you - I would have been fcuking livid!

I saw a guy once reverse out of a car park space into another car and drive off. I took a photo of him, flagged him down and told him I was going to report him for driving off.
I reported it to the Customer Service desk in the supermarket.

When I was coming out of the supermarket he was at the Customer Service desk fessing up - not sure he would have done if I hadn't have challenged him.

Hope you get it sorted ok - be interesting to see what you get quoted.......

I feel for you. Hope you get it fixed quickly.

Worse one I ever saw was an old woman reversing in her VW Golf all the way up the side of a brand new 911. Scraped all along it. She looked at the damage from the safety of her car and drove off. I took her plates and left a note on the 911. As I was leaving the note on the 911 she came back and saw what I was doing and drove off at speed!

Disgraceful. No idea if the 911 owner ever did anything but I felt better reporting it.

is that dealer prices? you'd be better off taking it to an independent bodyshop!

Dealer says £225. The white line in the left pic comes off but leaves a noticeable mark in the paint, and there are a couple of other scuffs in the area as well as the paint that got taken off. Price is about what I was expecting and feels reasonable.

What a PITA Nobody should have to put up with their property being damaged like that. Hopefully the idiot who did it has worse damage on their car.

Body shop guy said they will make good the slight indentation where the bumper has been marked and then paint/blend-in the whole of the right corner. Not sure if that qualifies as 'smart' or 'proper', but they did a similar thing to the front corner of my 328i when the neighbour took it a bit close and took a half-crown section of paint down to the bare plastic. Two years on when I got shot of the car you wouldn't know it had ever been repaired, so fingers crossed

Blending the colour is not a problem - its the lacquer over it.

If they intend to re-lacquer the whole bumper then I wouldn't see an issue but I'm afraid you just can't blend lacquer without being able to tell.

I'd ask them a bit more about the process before proceeding. Full front bumper repair and re-finish on my E90 cost £230 from main dealer as a price guide......

Yep dealer, sorry would never go else where, they did remove the bumper to do it but really it was just a scuff that could not be polished out.

However the person who did it paid for it, cash as dis not want to go via insurance.

Almost exactly the same damage as what happened to mine.

Driver fled the scene, but luckily a good samaritan saw the incident and left the reg no. in a note. Police followed it up and gave me the details and said they had spoken to the woman. I then got a card in the post a few days later from the perpetrator saying sorry and she'll pay. Total bumper respray, remove and re-fit around £300.

Hope yours is sorted out perfectly.

Twats!

This is cheaper than a repair for future reference

Bloody disrespectful twats.

Why do people think it's ok to damage your car and drive off.

Would they take the same attitude towards general vandalism ???

Not that different in my humble opinion.

Had similar damage and an indent as well from a transit van with tow bar. Paid £250 to a local indy who does good work and came out looking new despite only being a blend not a full respray.
Car was traded in at dealer 8 months later and they didn't know it had been done.
Your quote seems reasonable and you shouldn't be able to tell. Hope you get it sorted satisfactorily.
