Service intervals for the x40i engine?
Anyone know what it is? For the life of me I cannot find it on the BMW web site. Assume it is variable...
Thanks all.

should be same as n55 engines since the new engine is based on that. So at a guess , oil service at every 15k miles, every 3rd pil service u will need plugs done. Brake fluid every 3 years.

It is variable indeed. I have done 300 miles so far and the on board cpu says the next service in 18k miles. However, if you drive lots of motorway miles and avoid city traffic, it adds a couple of thousand miles to your next interval.
My old m135i has done 17k miles and the next service wasn't due until another 4k miles. |

The service intervals are crazy IMO if you care about the car get service pack and then on top do interim oil changes around 9k /10k using a indie or speecialist. Will keep engine running far better. mine just will hit 10k soon and is saying another 8k to service. Had oil changed about 500 miles ago and its like a new car. Not healthy really to stick with same oil for that long irrespective of long or only short journeys, though especially if on short ones mainly

usual case they are going to get sued in US far easier by customers while here in UK best we can do when your engine fails is trading standards in comparison like using a fly swatter to scare off a raging elephant.
Just need to look at all the other issues e90 cracked alloys , the whole car theft thing it took so much noise and watchdog / media before they did anything in UK. Simply law is on their side not on customers so they dont care typical corporations

I don't see how they would particularly benefit from the longer service intervals though. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if the service interval was 5k less and they would make more money from servicing.

Bought mine with 8900miles showing, car told me service (that's the first one) was due at 17,000 had it done at 12500 miles as i just felt it was far too long, after all the first one is only basically an oil & filter change.
I remember the days of my Impreza & the Evo's oil change was at 4500miles!! |

Didn't think the dealer would service them earlier than indicated? Thanks

Would like to know this also. Not a fan of the long service intervals. Especially from the start of the cars life through run in. All the way up to 17k miles?!
I'd much rather have one done at 8-10k. Got a service pack though so I don't really want to pay if I can get away with them covering the costs. Doubt that'd be likely though. |

What's the general consensus on the service pack? Worth it?

I started a thread asking this same question a few months back and the majority of people did say yes. I came away with the assumption if you're doing short journeys and are looking to keep the car for 3 years or more then most definitely yes. If you do long journeys and are looking to keep it for the same time then you may get away with just paying for one service and one brake fluid change which would be cheaper than the service pack.
If you're going to be trading in before 3 years then it probably isn't worth it however another way to look at it (in my opinion anyway) is that the cost is covered for the future. My plan is to change the car at around 3 years old (sooner if I can afford to) and most of my journeys will be 15 miles either way. I've estimated my service intervals will be around 13-15k miles and doing around 12k miles a year I'd possibly make use of the service pack. If I only get the one service, brake fluid change, and vehicle check out of it I won't be too worried as I'm kind of glad the cost is covered for the next 3 or so years. Hope that helps a little. |

Thanks for the info. I will be doing anywhere between 10k and 20k miles pa. My job can involve being at the end of a train journey or a 100 mile round road trip. So it's very difficult to gauge which would be better.
