My car's been in the dealers since last Thursday. There's been an on-going fault with the ConnectedDrive system where although I can flash headlights and locate the car and all that stuff I can't receive map locations from the app or Google maps or from the BMW Concierge service.

When I first took the car in (to Eastern in Edinburgh) they bluffed that they had fixed it but had actually done nothing. I rang BMW customer services and they told me this was a PUMA issue and the unit just needed a software update. I took the car to Peter Vardy the second time and they detected a fault with the comms unit and it needed to be replaced.

I took the car in last Thursday and they replaced the unit.They also found a fault with the / an "Accumulator" and replaced that and it's been plugged into Germany since Thursday and they have been trying to code the new modules but apparently it keeps crashing.

Now i've done some coding like removing TPMS for my winter wheels, I've added EBT and cornering lights. The EBT and the TPMS has meant changes to the FA (Vehicle order codes) and I'm worried Germany is thinking this is not the correct FA for this car and keeps crashing out???

I'm pretty sure the first thing the dealer will have done is a complete car software update - that will have wiped out your coding.

That said, for such an issue I would have removed all coding myself before taking the car in!

Not sure on the coding issue side of it but I do know that the "send messages to car" has been reported as a fault before.

I actually had the same issue on my M235i. Like you, everything worked from the remote app apart from sending messages/maps to the car.

The car actually reported itself to BMW as not receiving messages which surprised me when I got a call from BMW!!

Anyway, mine was taken in, PUMA case raised and the software was updated. Following that, it fixed it.

Just spoken with the dealer and they have raised a PUMA case with BMW on the matter. Apparently it get's to nearly done then just stops and crashes out.

I was told if the FA is changed then they would only code to the FA in the car not what they had on record (in case dealer had added stuff)

Oh well, I'll wait and see what happens. Not enjoying the X1 they've provided though

Update...

Because I've added 6NS Extended bluetooth the telematics won't accept the new coding because it doesn't match the original vehicle order.

The dealer is telling me the 6NS cannot be retrofitted and I'm now hearing BMW may not pay for the new telematics unit because the FA has been changed from the original.

They have to get the original FA from BMW and recode the car and then try to reprogram the module again.

Not so good......think I would always return to stock prior to it going anywhere near the dealers..........

Oops! Not good and a potential issue for those who have voted EBT to be aware of?

Hmm, not good. Hope it works out however for you. I would assume it is easy enough for BMW to reset the software somehow and then do the coding mentioned.

However, this is firming up my view that I will leave coding well alone. Maybe some "nice to have" things, like coding stop/start off, but if it may affect warranty, I will deffo leave as is.

I get the impression the guy's at the dealers have little knowledge of coding as the car just get's plugged into Germany over the internet.

I'm not going without a fight though. If it comes to it I'm going to ask them to prove that the original fault was directly caused by the rouge EBT. I know this thing didn't work from day one. Or, if it's still not fixed, threaten to reject the car as it's still less than 6 months old. This is the third attempt at fixing this.

I have the same issue. I coded 6NK from 6NH and lost my ConnectDrive drive and remote services. When I go onto Connected Drive through the idrive the option to "Update BMW Services" is greyed out and if I go to BMW online it tells me to activate bluetooth data or contact service. From the app nothing works, it all comes back as failed.

I called BMW today about it and they've said it needs to go to the dealers for them to look into. Looks like I'll be coding 6NH before I book it in and hoping for the best.

They are giving you BS mate. It's a 1 second parameter change on the software, so even if they load code that is not suitable for your specific build the software would tell them the error.

Sit tight & fight.

Me too! Terrified I'd brick the software in my car, have enough trouble trying to get an iPhone 6 to work properly with the bloody Bluetooth!

Slightly nervous after reading this. I coded the enhanced bluetooth not long after I got the car. Just recently the car has had problems staying connecting to the phone. It works at first then I get a message in the car that there is no device connected. I can still see the phone on the bluetooth menu but the little phone symbol is grey. Was going to mention it at the next service but might need to look into coding it back to how it was first.

They told be it should be done tomorrow and I'll wait and see what they have to say when I collect it. I'll update as soon as I know.

I'm not sure why but it seems to take hours to code at the dealers.

Settings that will allow you to modify your FA without actually writing the modified FA back to the car:

Start E-Sys and click on Options, then Settings... A settings window will be displayed, click on the Options tab. You need to UNCHECK the "Update VCM after TAL execution" and "Update MSM after TAL execution" switches (Thanks Shawn!). This prevents Code/FDL Code operations from writing modified FA's back to the car.

I've never had an issue with dealer updates with my modified FA.

The saga continues. I had to call them at about 4pm to get an update and spoke with the tech there. All the coding has now been successfully done so all new telematics unit installed but it now won't talk to BMW servers at all.

At least with the old unit I had some level of connectivity.

It's a bit worrying. I get the impression that they are completely baffled by it.

Another update tomorrow. They've had it for 5 days now

Got my car back from the dealers today. This is going to be an on-going issue by the looks of it. The dealer said to collect the car as this could be a long conversation with BMW.

To add insult there is absolutely no connection with the outside world. Before I took it in the only issue was receiving map locations from the BMW app and Google maps. I could still use the BMW app and locate the car and all that plus weather updates and news stuff. Now there is nothing, no connection with any data services whatsoever.

And they still trying to say it was potentially caused by coding done after.

Send to car from Google maps doesn't work. It hasn't worked on mine since I got it last July, either before or after I coded EBT. Send to car from the BMW app does work, however, so that's good enough. When I raised it with Connected Drive they came back and said there was an issue with google maps which was being investigated
