BMW of Concord offers M2 allocs for 10k over MSRP

     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Needless to say I was disappointed with that "market adjustment" and backed out.

--------

2 allocation slots for the new m2 coupe.

With projected delivery in about 3-4 months.

Price will be $10,000.00 over the MSRP.

Need a $5000.00 deposit to get the order placed.

Go tell them to F themselves. I feel like this really goes against the spirit of the M2. The M2 is a different price point than M4's, M6's. That's like a ~$15k mark-up for an M4, and a ~$25k mark-up for an M6, which nobody in their right mind would pay, even at launch. Gotta love these Bay Area stealerships. You can easily get it from a So Cal dealer, or out of state; just not the first one. Market forces will dictate. They'll have the only super hot, in demand car that's not selling for some reason, lol.

Great marketing strategy, narrow down the list of people that will EVER buy a car from you.

This is makes me sick. As I said in a previous post, BMW is starting to market their higher end cars like Porsche is doing with their GT cars. In other words, limit the quantity to stir up demand and increase the price to make them completely unattainable to new customers. Any dealership that charges a "market adjustment" rate essentially doesn't care about attaining new customers and introducing them to the brand, which is very sad

Several of the Bay Area dealers I have inquired of so far are charging a $5K premium over MSRP. They won't get my business.

I would walk in, tell them to go F themselves like others have mentioned, and show the the order slip from another dealer at MRSP, in addition to a Facebook post trashing them, with well over 10000 likes.

Charging over retail price is complete BS. Anyone willing to pay that is an idiot. There are a lot of cars out there to choose from.

I read something about deposit refunds, depending on state, must be refunded
if the car is not purchased. Perhaps not according to consumer reports.

I'm hearing a 5K-10K bump over MSRP in California. Of course everything is
anecdotal at this point. Although complaining about exotic car prices is like complaining your trust fund is not earning enough interest.

legally a dealer has to refund a deposit in CA . until any point before you buy the car. you can custom order a bmw, with brown paint and red seats and when it arrives not take it and they legally have to give you your money back (i have seen awful things like a estoril blue f30, with red seat and wood trim stuck in a dealer show room and they explained this is exactly what happened....)

I heard same thing from a dealer in CA this week. 10k over for their first and only allocation. I was expecting having to wait so it's no big deal but yeah, it's disappointing

Lots of greed out there. I got calls from two dealerships offering me their first cars for 10k over MSRP. I have decided I will not be doing business with them in the future because I cannot stand that level of greed. Dealerships can and do make plenty of money selling cars at invoice much less MSRP. There is one dealer in my State that isn't playing that game and that is the dealer I will be buying my cars from going forward.

I'd snag that up for under MSRP and just swap the interior trim lol

weirdly enough when i bought my estoril blue 328i i was going to order it. a dealer in my area had one that someone had canceled on basically the same way i was going to order it.

and they said because "normal people" don't buy estoril blue, it'd been rotting in their showroom for 4 months. got it for 6 grand under sticker. and this was 4 months after estoril blue 328s were available.

That's what was explained to me when I asked how much deposit was needed for an M4 build, in fact the internet sales mgr said their dealership does not take deposits on builds at all.

My dealer is selling for MSRP. I don't think this is as common as it may seem...

Yep, unfortunately a lot of dealers throughout US are doing it, even in our competitive market in Chicagoland. Except us at Knauz, we never charge over, even M4GTS went for sticker

If a dealer called me with that kind of offer my blood would boil...my SA knows better lol. But it's these idiots out there that are willing to pay that much over MSRP that are perpetuating this issue. If dealers are offering this "deal" more often it must be working.

Maybe we all need to find the proverbial money tree these other folks have found that allows them to dump 10k above sticker.

Not exactly the same but in the UK, Porsche dealers have been playing silly games with customers for a long time now. Deposits can be left but allocations are distributed according to how much $$ the customer drops at the dealership each year, etc. Just look at the GT4.

Not condoning the behaviour, but BMW dealers here seem to have more integrity than their Porsche counterparts.

It probably has to do with the recent change of ownership. Good strategy, buy all dealerships raise the prices.

Yea, even in NY. I could have locked down the first allocation from a dealership by me, but they wanted $59K sale price. No thanks.

It's common for dealerships to charge over sticker on the first allocation of new m models, ESPECIALLY in California, and especially dealerships who lets say only have one allocation
They need to get there money's worth

You'll surely be able to get these cars under msrp after a few months
