RR Evoque Convertible is here...

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/...ble-20-td4-180

I do like to defend the right of car makers to make cars that folk want to buy, even if enthusiasts think they're pointless (e.g. X4, X6, 5 series GT, 2AT).

And also the right of others to have bad taste. But this tests my liberal attitude and years of marketing experience...

It fails on so many different levels.

1. It is a diesel convertible - why just why.
2. It has a 0 to 60 time slower than a mini towing a caravan.
3. It cost £51k with Jaguars amazing discount strategy to back it up.
4. It's a 4 pot diesel convertible.

I just hate to think of what goes through anyone's brain when they buy one of these.

Are JLR's sales figures and claims of waiting lists quite as genuine as they make out ?

The Jag XF estate got dropped with not even a whimper ...

It was just not selling, it's replacement is seen as the F Pace.

Sorry, just not that convinced that there is a large market for 4 pot diesel Evoque convertible.

I've never claimed my opinion matters (not on a public forum anyway!), however I'm still allowed to share it, and perhaps understand if my dislike is unique.

I believe a few have decided it is horrendous.

If so what would you like done to him? Answers below.

A ridiculous car - which will doubtless be purchased by equally ridiculous people with more money than sense - and taste

Shit and getting 3.5 stars from British review is like giving it a turd rating. Oh dear, they've gone too far now.

Yeah but it only does 0 to 60 in over 10 seconds.

Not so sure about wannabe wags, not even the Fat Slags would want to be in one.

'Fuck me San, you see that Gadgees car, it's fuckin ugly, bet his cock is to'

'Yeah Tray, you know what they say, "Diesel convertible= smelly cock"'

Chav. Pure and simple. Something I'd expect from Audi, not JLR.

Garage List
Not the best looking of things in my eyes and I probably wouldn't consider one

Will they sell - am sure they will.

Yes it will be crap off road but how many will actually ever use any Evoque off road

It's sort of filling the niche of a posh defender type vehicle but purely for show.

Agree it looks hideous, but we are about as far from JLR's target demographic as we could be. Simply by being here I can deduce that you, as bimmerpost members, are fans of speed and power, driving dynamics and classically tasteful style.

I can also deduce you aren't married to or hoping to marry a footballer. You don't visit tanning salons and nail bars twice a week. And you probably don't flaunt your wealth.

It's like a Metallica forum deciding they don't like Taylor Swift's new single. Er...yeah....!

Edit - and I think it will sell in it's target niche quite well.

As a Metallica fan, I actually like Taylor Swift.

Can't see anything wrong with her ....

Precisely, a pure fashion statement. I mean, what is the point of having one of these? In fact, what is the point of having an SUV like the Evoque with or without a roof on? They're never going to winch a stranded car out of a ditch on the edge of Dartmoor like an old Defender could and their off road credentials are dubious to say the least. They make no sense in town, and yet there's plenty of them around London and the South East. My local estate agent has one, and he's a cock, which I suppose says it all
