Diesel/Oil Smell in Cabin
Just changed my oil and made a high speed 600 mile trip to LA and back. I am getting a diesel/oil smell in my cabin. Under hood inspection could not find any oil leaks. Any ideas?

This is probably not it but did you do oil change yourself? I saw big oil mess on under liner/pan thing after dealer did change. After big flow is over and it is running much slower out drain hole, the oil starts to "stick to" the pan surface and run aftward on the pan and makes a mess on the panel below the pan. When I do the oil change myself (which is always now, outside free maintenance), I pull the lower cover off so nothing gets on the lower cover. Alas, I am not a top sider. This may be yet another reason to start doing job through dip stick hole.
It could be coincidental with the oil change. The black hoses that connect to DPF pressure tubes could have come disconnected. I hope not as that can cause other stuff to get cooked. There have been 4 or 5 people report similar smell thing in cabin. IIRC, one of them had a melted hose of some sort going to the pressure converter. Pull engine cover off and look carefully on passenger side of engine. Do you see any smoke if you do this while engine is running? |

Look at the top oil line to the turbo. I had a similar experience and my oil line was leaking. I got a heads up from another member on this forum. Part was 11427795971 and took about a half hour to replace. Remove the engine cover to verify if your hose is leaking. It was hard for me to tell with the cover on.

I have a diesel exhahdt smell in the cabin as well. My tuner who was A mechanic in the UK claimed it to be either the exhaust manifold gasket or the v band clamp, pop open the hood and get a smell of exactly what area it's coming from ( as bad as it sounds ) as well change your cabin filter also since its most likely full of diesel odour

Update...the oil smell went away, but so did my small turbo and along came a persistent whistle which I assume is a vacuum. I assume this is the vacuum line associated with turbo actuator?
