BMW Paint Protection
Salesman has offered me some sort of paint protection treatment.
Is it worth having ?

In short No.
But it depends on how much it will cost you. Generally it is a money maker for the Dealer. You could do better yourself or pay for a Professional Detail. Plenty of posts on here about this.

I had Seal & Protect for my 330d when I bought that. He did a 'deal' but I still paid about £300 for it. Probably could of got it better and cheaper elsewhere but I was lazy and he offered to transfer for my cherished plate for free with it so I just said yeah.
For a black car I thought it made a big difference and was well worth it. I would have it again but probably from a local independent.

The rarely prepare the paint properly first and do a poor job of applying it. Don't bother even if it's free.

Just ask them to give you the bag with the products in it. It is full of useful stuff (eg car wash, Polish, leather cleaner and scree wash).
But don't pay....get it thrown in for free! |

Detailer I've left my car with said that they pay about £50 for the kit and £20 for somebody to apply it.
He advised to stay well away from any dealer doing anything with paintwork whether cleaning or other! |

A waste of money. I had it once and would never pay for it again. They don't prepare and seal the paintwork properly. A glorified hand car wash, in other words

Firstly from experience they will not prep the car properly so it will have all sorts of swirls or even worse, buffer trails in it, they then apply a 'protection' which seals all that in. Now with respect, that's OK for the average Jo who just buys a car to get from A to B and takes it to the local car wash to get it cleaned as it will afford some degree of protection, which is better than nothing and give it a decent shine. But if you are the sort who 'loves' their car and takes pride over it, if you are able, do it yourself or get a 'detailer' to do a protection on it. Firstly they will get rid of all the nasty swirls that the dealer has put in it when they prep'd the car and secondly they will generally use far superior products. Then it is easy for you to maintain. |

I had to wait a week from handover to get the car to the detailer so had the dealer put their protection on for free. The detailer showed me what a mess they had made and removed it before doing a proper job, but it did give me some protection for that week.

I wouldn't bother again either - I got a deal on it when buying a AUC and it wasn't prepared anything like the standard I see in pictures of professional detailers work - it had smears on the rear and the salesman was embarrassed and sent the car back for a quick fix. It does make the water bead away but better off putting the money towards a pro to do it.
