DEPO P90 V2 upgrade to FX-R 3 Bi-Xenon (on-going)

I am going to be taking these DEPO P90 V2 LED headlights and retrofitting these FX-R 3 Bi-Xenon HID projectors in them.

This is an ongoing project as the projectors are back ordered until next week but I thought I would crack open the Depo lights to start the videos. I will not be doing an instal video as there are plenty of guides on how to do this around the forum.

Once I got the cover removed from the housing I noticed that Depo used plenty of black silicon that blended in with the butyl and removed it. I believe that if you don't remove the silicon when you reattach the front cover it will get in the way of an air tight seal causing your headlights to fog up. I also removed any butyl from around the nubs so that when i do reseal them I can get a fresh seal with new butyl.

Any plans to do anything additional for the high beam besides the bi-xenon you will have from the FXR?

That looks complicated and labour intensive but will be great to see the end result

Not sure what else I can do besides bi-xenon. Any ideas while i have them open?

I sure wish TheRetrofitSource.com would get their shippment released from customs. Apparently someone decided to import $6mil in cocaine into Atlanta and it held up their cargo boxes at customs.

It is really easy to get the headlight apart. The hardest part will be creating a FXR to DEPO mount for the projector mounting patterns.

Bi-xenon is ok, but generally, you will outrun your lights quite often. All depends on where you drive and your needs.

That free form reflector may be fairly decent, but while you have them apart, I would be testing it and see how it performs. If it is H3 based, it's most likely less than H7/H9 or H1 based. Better yet, if they are 9005 basedm then you can go 9011HIR for 3000lumens. If the pattern is fairly good and narrow, I would go for an uprated bulb in 60/70W option. Please do check of what material the reflector is made and how good the connectors are, though. At 65w/70w you are not likely to melt anything if the original bulb is 55w. I would still run it relayed instead of direct.

If the free form reflector is substandard, then all depends on your budget. You can stick anything from 50mm to 120mm Hella units in there, may be the best would the standard 90mm. They are fairly shallow and would be a good fit. Options are halogen, led or xenon.

Back in the old days I used to run bixenons with Hell 90mm H9 units. They were amazing. H9 is at 2100 lumens, not quite HID, but better than Xenon.

Hmm...... Please explain how an H9 would be better than bi-xenon and how I am more likely to outrun a bi-xenon than a traditional halogen bulb and housing setup.

Nah, H9 is not better than your regular xenon. Xenon is brighter. What I was trying to say is that it is all in the optics. Bi-xenon is a compromise, usually great low beam, but high beam is not that great. A good high beam is quite narrow and long. What I was suggesting is to add and additional to your bi-xenon module that will act as a dedicated high beam. But that is if your high beam reflector is just ok. If it produces a good narrow beam, even then you can go and upgrade with a slightly higher wattage bulb. The only reason I was talking halogen is because they are fairly inexpensive. You certainly can add a dedicated high beam in xenon or led, but that will turn expensive. Does not matter on the light source, just looking to add better optics. Well, at least, I do find that I outrun my bi-xenons quite easily. They just do not have a good reach in a high beam mode.

A lot of this makes no sense. A superior bi xenon (not the hella you are talking about) will outperform any of your suggestions. Projectors that come to mind are the RX350, EvoX-R, Acura TL. Also, your optimal color temperature for max lumens is 3.6k.

You missed the part where I was suggesting adding a better high beam to the bi-xenon retrofit. Emphasis being on adding, not replacing. The idea being discussed is an improvement to the high beam performance. OP will already have a decent low beam with his FX projector retrofit.

However, I stand by my previous statement that looking at a high beam performance from an optical standpoint any bi-xenon is inferior to a dedicated narrow high beam unit. If you wish to comapre apple to apples, compare them with a xenon light source. Just for reference, in the past ten plus years I had an opportunity to play with a lot of various xenon and bi-xenon projectors, including the ones made my Hella.

3.6k colour temperature is quite on a warmish white/yellow spectrum. May not work too well with a blue obsessed general public.

Apologies to the OP for the thread hijack.

Finally got my FX-r 3's in the mail!

I will document the next headlight I retro but I wanted to share the final product. It is a pain in the ass and I now know why OSS and lightwerkz charge so much. I am glad that I painted the chrome black it looks so much better since I have no chrome on my car except for the roundel.

You can purchase the right size rings now. Wish I had seen this thread earlier. V4 style brightness.

How are those rings attached to the projectors/housing?

They are attached with three clips. That's the way they are made.

I may also part with these headlights if the price is right!
