Aftermarket satnav & lcd screen
I have a standard 3 series f30 2012.
It doesn't have satnat or bluetooth streaming etc so I'm thinking of replacing the screen with a unit from China, alibaba. Etc or similar if they work. Just wondered If any one has bought one and tried it. Not looking to spend too much but I'd like it to work with the idrive. I assume they do? Otherwise I won't bother Any advice?? They seem to be 8" lcd touch screen from about $200 up?? Thanks all for any help. Last edited by Watersidef30; 03-09-2016 at 12:56 PM.. |

It wouldn't work. It would need to be a BMW screen to work with the iDrive system.

OP, I looked in depth into the E90 ones for my bro in law, and the far east ones are an absolute no no, they don't integrate well with the oem equipment & some have even corrupted the cars software/firmware!! |

The Dynavin DVN F30 is the only one to even slightly consider:
http://www.dynavinstore.com/Producti...dvnf30d99.html But for not much more you can get a full NBT pro media system, which would be better, although almost imposssible to find one with DAB. Or if you just want sat nav then tomtom on iphone or android or standalone unit will be a better nav system. |

Yes, I mean like this. Just a random one I've chosen. Not saying it's any good but you know what I mean.
http://m.alibaba.com/product/6034901...17009.5.krQkpe No idea why my car was built with a massive useless lcd screen and no satnav. But that's options I guess. It's absolutely worthless as it is and no way to add satnav to it. Without spending a fortune. That Dvn f30 Is £700.. Blimey... Noooo Last edited by Watersidef30; 03-09-2016 at 01:02 PM.. |

Or what about if I collected a used satnav head unit from a breakers yard. I know they need coding but would the cd unit with my existing lcd screen?
Needs the idrive twiddle too I guess. |

TBH you're best to use phone tomtom for nav & plug your phone into the usb/aux with a y cable for music, then make sure your next car comes with pro media. |

Yeah that's what I did. Previous car was a 2012 f30 with no nav or Bluetooth streaming - the screen was pretty pointless really.
I just used a vent mount for my phone and had a Bluetooth receiver connected to the centre armrest aux-in |

had my 2012 car for 3 years now.
no sat nav or blue tooth streaming. fitted my old garmin below the HU and hard wired it. i only really use it for speed camera warnings and occasional satnavery. i plugged a usb /3.5mm audio to blue tooth adaptor into the armrest usb and aux sockets. just a few quid on ebay.gives you audio from your phone. or just a usb stick for in the same usb port for albums. via the idrive. |

There's a company on eBay doing the full install for £800. They seem to have had good reviews.
They're based in the Midlands and I believe they used recycled bits. You would need to check if they were dab etc etc.

A BMW dealer seems to be offering sat nav retrofits. Got an email from BMW Cotswold not sure if other dealers are offering the service, £850 fitted.....

the panel below the HU is easily removed,
the garmin mount was cut down drilled in the centre and solvent weld adhesive plus a self tappin screw fitted through the panel. cabling was run through the same and hard wired into the back of the ignition powered 12v cigarette socket under the glove box. did the same on my E90 years ago... there is/was a thread somewhere on here.... (edit)found a pic... it's not ideal if you need to look at the screen to navigate, but i only need the voice prompts on the rare occassions i use the nav, it is mainly just for camera/speed awareness.
