Exclamation E92 M3 476HP with just a chip tune!

I know that sounds pretty out there but just take a look at this:
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/att...8&d=1202422625

not only that but they got 550 on an M5. I wonder what kind of strain that will put on the engine though...

Dude, 335 has twin turbo engine which is very easy to mod. M3 is a different story. In order to squeeze that many hp out of M3, the cost won't be under $10k. So, it's not easy, but still it's possible.

wow, thats pretty impressive. But, I wonder how much it would cost and if it would void the warranty.

The days when you could get significant power gains (via a chip change) on a normally aspirated motor have been over since the old six-cylinder M5s from the early 90's.

Note that the E46 M3 claimed aftermarket chip gains were either non-existent or in the single digits, and believe me, BMW hasn't suddenly gotten stupid about this.

I believe you're going to be able to get reasonable power increases on these cars through intake and exhaust changes, primarily because the California drive-by noise standards are so tight for OEMs that the aftermarket can move into this area and make some money. However, the power increases will be all at the top of the rev range. Useful on track, but not so much on the street.

On the plus side, the additional aural stimulation will tend to give even the most discerning of us (seat of the pants wise) a fair bit more of that "Wow, what power!" feeling, and that's worth something.

I respectfully disagree. When the guys at ///M took upon the job of producing the next M3, it wasn't all about squeezing every last bit of HP. They also had to consider how many MPG this car would get, reliability, emissions, ect....

As I'm sure you all know, BMW plans on selling the most M3's in it's history by a long shot. It's an ambitious goal that would never be met if the car was producing 9 MPG and a $2100+ gas guzzler tax. There definitely is a possibility of some serious gains........ but at what cost in reliability & fuel economy?

Yeah, right. And how exactly did they measure hp at the crank? They sure didn't pull the engine out. So, how did they arrive at the crank hp? Hmmm...Let's pick a loss number. Let's pick one that is particularly low since we need to just pick one anyway. Hmmm.....When I see the modified car tested at the same chassis dyno as a stock M3 by an independent party, and see the difference in between the two charts, I'll believe it. Until then it's all marketing talk.

I'll call BS on that claim...That's an awful lot of HP to be gained from an NA engine without major work.

Back on topic. I will agree with many others here. +62 hp on this high strung 4 liter V8 is by no means unreasonable. However, with a chip along absolutely no way and I'd place money where my mouth is on that one.

This numbers are ridiculous. I guess 10, maybe 20 are possible... maybe! But over 50? never with just a chip...

to get more power i ll mod the car with a new exhaust and maybe a new intake after a year or two. Maybe someday a supercharger or turbocharger īll follow... maybe.
