Post Project: Halogen Angel Eyes to Xenon Led Angel Eyes.

For: 2009-2011 BMW 328i LCI Halogen Head Lights.
Attempt at your own risk.

Converting Xenon Angle Eyes to Fit Halogen Head lights
-This may not work out in the end.

_________________________________________________

I originally bought a H8 LED Angel Eye Bulb Set for Xenon headlights.

Dumb me, I have Halogen Lights, and the connection plug is different.

__________________________________________________ _________

Remove the (What I call) Angel Eye assembly from the Head Light.
I simply removed three or four bolts on the wheel well and pulled it back to access the light. No need to remove the entire well or the tire, just turn the wheels.

Remove the light cover, remove plug.
Use a T15 to remove the screws to take out the angle eye assembly.
Screws are show backwards in this photo. I just screwed them in so I wouldn't lose them. Didn't realize they were on backwards when I took this photo.

Next Disassemble the Angel Eye assembly into five different parts.
(Also Shown the LED Kit)

Remove the glass piece, I used scissors.

Remove the plastic, I just bent them with my hands until they broke off.

How it will be assembled. Flip the metal piece upside down on the other side.

In theory the finished mount.

Would really like to use a thin metal to bend or a bracket to hold the light from the back.
Well... zip ties work.

Pulled the wires out of the case.

Needed this cable and cant find it separately. I don't like to cut wires.

Latest:
Need a reflector housing to direct the light, thinking about cutting the original or fabricating one.
Its become more of just a project of mine instead of just a replacement.

Current Parts Used:
From ESC Tuning:

Just for the cable and a backup set: Is this cable sold separately somewhere?

If you want a direct halogen to led replacement then get LUX halogen V2's.

unfortunately what you are doing will not work at all. The stock bulb shines the light forward into the rings, while the LED light you have shines the light out to the side. Unless you plan to make a reflector around the LED's to focus the light forward then it will not work at all.

It would probably be best to return what you have and get something designed for your car.

Seems simple enough to get some reflective material and wrap the inside. I can make this work.

So what are you going to do about the UV light from the xenon bulb yellowing the light rods?

Over time the light rods turn a greenish/yellow from UV exposure from the HID bulb

That glass "screen" is actually a UV filter....

EDIT: I see you're not actually using an HID bulb so the light rods yellowing over time is not a concern with LEDs.

A lot of the light emitting from the LEDs is lost due to improper control/distribution. You need a reflector to gather all the light and throw it into the light rings.....that's only part of it though. Light needs to enter the light rods at the right angle for it to travel properly throughout the light rods.

If you can extract the halogen bulb from it's OEM reflector and fix the LED bulb into that reflector, it may work out better for you.

Thank you sir! I like this idea. If I can cut the reflector housing down, the top part of the led light will sit at the exact spot the halogen bulb was in the reflector housing. Then it still should have enough clearance to fit behind the cover.

Before you cut it i would test the beam pattern to see where it is focusing the light. I still suspect that it will not correctly focus the light and the rings will not illuminate.

Just wondering, but why go through all this effort when there are many different products already made to do this. Most of them have the same light output as the one you have here, and are already optimized.
