GTS exhaust = M3/M4 M Performance Exhaust?

Is GTS equipped with BMW MPE exhaust? Or is custom designed for the GTS. Thanks!

The rear section does look like the MPE albeit with different tips. I have not seen pictures of the mid-section H-pipe, but I would guess it is also the same as the MPE.

Pure speculation on my part though...

I'm actually not so sure it comes with the MPE. I have the MPE on my M3 and I'm more than familiar with the sound. I saw and heard the GTS start up and rev up in person and it does not sound quite like my car, unless it sounds different due to the power difference or the water injection?

The GTS rear silencer does look very similar in design to the MPE, with different tips though. Difference in sound likely comes from different ECU programming. The GTS seems to have very agressive anti lag going on with a lot of "pops" on the overrun. Maybe the CP with MPE will sound more like the GTS.

That could make sense. I did not hear "pops" on it maybe because it was standing still revs and not under load, but what I did hear was that at higher rpm revs it was raspier, e46 M3 rasp like. I do like that.

P.S. Pre-production car too so that maybe different that the final product.

You even can read the M performance letters on the canister...

Does anyone know if the MPE carbon fiber tips will fit the GTS tips?

If the GTS does indeed have the MPE rear section, it is very probable that the MPE CF tips will fit.

However, they wont fit "over" the GTS tips, you will likely have to remove the GTS tips to install the CF tips.

Absolutely makes sense. Wonder if the tips are all titanium

Quite possible.

The MPE tips are also all titanium (mine are turning blue inside, which is a strong indication they are all titanium). The CF tips are simply the titanium tips with a CF sleeve over them.

I am curious about this as well. As everyone's praising the sound of GTS, it might help me to justify throwing $$$ for the MPE.

on the production car, there is no "m performance" lettering on the rear silencer and the tips are welded on as well.

To me it sounds pretty much the same as an MPE on a regular M4.

The map does do "glitzy" things (burble/pops) to the exhaust that are not at all performance-related. The only evidence I have is that they're not load-based, as the signature burble/pops can be induced in sport or sport+ throttle mode when revving at a standstill.

Perhaps the reason you didn't hear any pops on engine decel is probably because the car was in efficient mode, but if not, the map doesn't do any loadless overrrun when it's in its cold start mode, which lasts a period of time (~90-120s IIRC) before it'll allow any burble/pop on decel. The exception to this is for the first 5-10sec of startup, in order to get the some burble on the way back down from its initial startup rev, which the GTS and the ZCP map both do, both with the valves temporarily open (in efficient mode).

The GTS does not have MPE. It has a titanium system unique to the GTS. I've heard both in person and the GTS is significantly louder than an M4 w/MPE.

How about GTS vs M3/4 ZCP with MPE? I think ZCP with MPE sounds very close to GTS, at least from the videos.

Real OEM has GTS parts and even though part numbers are different, there are similarities in appearance and GTS has no mid resonator. I doubt it is significantly louder, may be more burbly due to different engine mapping.

Called up local dealer to get a price on GTS exhaust parts, they had them in the system but no availability and pricing. Said to callback in a few months. Highly doubt it's cheaper than the MPE...

GTS tips aren't resonated, if that makes any difference.

I haven't heard a ZCP w/MPE but I imagine with the overrun that it will sound more aggressive than a non ZCP M3/M4 also with MPE.

The videos simply do not do an open flaps GTS exhaust justice. It is terrifyingly loud. I took a video of some GTS revving yesterday and listened to them today and a cell phone camera can't capture it (or any exhaust note for that matter) accurately. The GTS is race car loud...and freaking awesome
