LUX H8 160 disappointing
I recently installed the LUX H8 160 bulbs in my '11 335D. The website advertises a clean, HID-matching color and even brightness between the rings. See all their nice photos?
But mine look nothing like the website photos at all. Not even close. What gives? For $200 I expected a hell of a lot better, or at least for them to match the website photos and descriptions. These are no better than the $20 LED H8 bulbs you can get off Amazon. The inner ring is super bright; the light, rather than being clean, disperses in a milky halo look. The outer ring is dim and yellow; it looks no better than the OEM halogen lights, or maybe even worse. Anyone else have a similar experience? Last edited by Dazza335iC; 02-26-2016 at 12:04 PM.. |

These lights need to be viewed at level with the headlight and over 30 feet away. All those pictures you see are from someone standing far away, level with the headlight but with the camera zoomed in.
If you look at these too close or an off angle they will not portray the light correctly. This is by design from BMW. This is not the fault of any plug and play LED angel eye upgrades. Your stock lights do the exact same thing. There is a plethora of info on the forums about the qualms of plug and play systems and faults of the BMW headlight and angel eye ring design flaws. Also the 2 vehicles portrayed from LUX are E92 M3's which have different headlights then E90. Last edited by Jeff@TopGearSolutions; 02-26-2016 at 11:44 AM.. |

You've got to stand further back if you want to replicate the pictures you linked. About two car lengths or more. See my photo for reference. If you look at the car from an angle, the outer ring is going to dim quickly. That's just the design of the headlights. The outer ring has two acrylic tubes that travel a far distance all around the internals of the headlight, which means the light has to travel significantly further than the inner ring (which has light blasting directly into it from behind). LCI E92, F10, F30 etc all have LEDs directly below each ring with a small nub on the bottom of each ring for the LED to travel into the ring. The distance we're talking about is millimeters. Hence why the combination of tiny travel distance + powerful LED means light is visible from every angle.

OP can you please post pictures taken with the suggestions from other members here? I too own a E90 LCI and am considering these lights. Thank you.

Sorry for the late response here but, but yes this is the design of the headlights that makes the outer rings dimmer. The farther you step back from the car the more even the outer rings appear.

Once you understand the limitations of the E90 angel eye design, you will cease to be "disappointed". These are lightyears more effective than the OEM H8 bulb configuration if only due to brightness (and no dimming when headlamps are on).
The only thing to note is that the LEDs can't fade off like incandescents do, so they pulse off. My passenger side Lux recently went on the fritz and failed on me a month after install, but Lux customer service was top notch and got me swapped out with a replacement about as quick as shipping takes between west and east coast. Kudos to them. |

thats how the e90 lci lights are, not caused by the bulbs.
