Service intervals for F48

I read somewhere that the car needs to be serviced every 18,000 miles. Apart from that - is there also a time interval?

May be different settings in different markets, but on my 20D it's 18000 miles or 24 months. However this will vary with usage - if you do mainly stop/start short runs it will require servicing sooner.

One of the settings on the multi-display in the instrument cluster tells you the calculated time & distance to the next service. Apparently the (Standard in the UK) Telematics will phone your dealer and make an appointment for you when a service is due: not sure I want that !!

Congrats on the new car manub... might be worth considering purchasing/negotiating the 5year fixed price option at £425 (ish) I went for it as seems good value. I think you have to buy within a certain period of buying the car.

My dealer gave me that - I'm on a PCP plan that is 8k miles per year (so not planning to do 18k miles every 2 year). If a service is every 18k miles I'll be better off without the plan. If it's every 2 year instead it's still a good deal as I'll save some money. Just wondering whether to take that service plan out or not.

I do a lot of short journeys.
When I collected the car, the service indicator showed 'next service 20k'.
Two months and 1300 miles later the service indicator has reduced to show 'next service 17k'. I did buy the service package and glad I did.

I guess because maybe I am a bit 'old school', I wish they would change the oil as standard practise after initial run in period. It just seems the right thing to do. I appreciate modern manufacturing methods, engineering tolerances and synthetic oil make it unnecessary but ..........!! Perhaps I will just have it done anyway.

In the U.S., the 2.0 engine is about every 10k miles or once a year.

BMWs use Condition Based Servicing (CBS) which takes into account driving habits, etc. and uses wear sensors for items such as brake pads, etc. One person may change their oil every 10k miles and another every 18k miles.

This is enough to make me stick with the prepaid plan. Thanks!

If your negotiating on a new car I would make them give you the service pack, I got one thrown in with mine as well as Auto Glym Lifeshine and a discount on the car

Does anyone know when is it recommended to do the first oil change during break-in period? I'm certainly not waiting until 9K miles as the on-board computer shows..

Same here ... just hit 1,000kms a few days ago and don't want to wait until the "official" first service before doing the first oil change.

Depending on whether you do lots of short runs (engine oil never reaches full operating temp) or you drive the car for long enough to really heat up the oil..the best syn oil in the world can't get rid of water vapor and contaminants from ring blow by unless it gets really HOT....So I'd recommend something like BMW does for M cars if you do short trips and say 3K miles or so for usage that is easier on oil...Of course if you're a "36 months and out" leasor..drive it like you stole it and just add gas...you'll be long gone B4 serious engine wear issues surface. I've always bought cars for the long term and treated them accordingly...other than design issues (looking at you Audi/Vw) I've never had mechanical issues ...with BMW soft parts another story...not good in the switch over to more plastic parts back in the early 90's..hope they've got it nailed now!

I did an oil change after 3000 km. My car has "low quality fuel" settings and the period of 12 000 km.
