Increased Production of M2?
Read this in Forbes this morning:
"Among those MotoGP fans, there should be a sliver who are professional and prosperous, and ready to move up to rear-drive performance. M2 has no production cap for M2. “We will make as many as the market demands,” says Fröhlich. “We have already doubled the target production. I am having trouble getting the tooling in time to produce enough. Since we have published the idea of the M2, we think demand will grow more,” he says. “We may have a one-year waiting list.” A good problem to have." [Typo in original.] http://www.forbes.com/sites/markewin.../#2d528901a1c4 Sort of good and bad news. . . Hope its not a repost. Jackie |

Interesting since the current vibe has been they can only make so many due to factory limits.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. |

The factory limits may bear direct relation to the tooling issues mentioned by Fröhlich. The fact that BMW is investing in more tooling to build more M2s is definitely good news, it its true.

Yes suppose it is good news more cars in drivers hands - although personally I do feel it makes it feel slightly less special. |

I guess it is inevitable if demand is there and the margin is big enough.
I agree it will make it less special - good news for those without orders in yet, bad news for owners |

i saw an i8 with $20k off sticker on it yesterday. given the i cars are probably not selling so well in a $2 a gallon climate, maybe that opens up more 2 series spots...

The production numbers will be no where near the numbers for M3. It's running from a smaller plant in which other cars are also built at.
But nevertheless - it's positive news. |

Lol by the time these things start appearing all over the roads my lease will have been up/I would have gotten into the next-gen M3/4. If/when it does become that common, I probably won't own it anymore.
I figured this would happen, hence why I wanted the first generation production of this car.

We don't know from what base point the production is doubled. It could be from the base point from early 2015 so the doubled production is what we have at the moment...

I read 18843 M3 E30 (incl special editions) were produced. So M2 needs to stay below that number Cheers robin |

Limited will be reserved for CSL gents. Otherwise you're expectations will not be met.

I love Mk2s . This is WRC driver Latvalla in a >35 year old car, Escort Mk2 in his spare time, just doing it right.... Forget Formula 1, Randy Pobst or ALMS/LM for that matter. Cheers Robin |

On topic, this news may or may not come true. Just have to wait and see I guess. I think for BMW if they can make enough for most people that want one it should be good for them. Keep the limited number for CSL or CS versions. One thing still weird to me is, if they don't plan on selling as much as they can, why does it seem like the marketing effort is much stronger than when the 1M came out. 1. Limited # - Limited total number of production, stops production after number reached. 1M, M4 GTS 2. Unlimited # - No limit on total number of production, only production capacity constraint. M3 ,M4 and hopefully M2(albeit more constraint than other Ms) Last edited by OG///M; 02-22-2016 at 09:39 AM.. |
