Boo - windscreen

So, travelling across the M62 today and my windscreen made a pop noise and a 4" crack appeared on the right hand side at eye level. After another 10 minutes of driving it had doubled in size.

Got the car home, called car glass company - insisted on original glass (I don't want unbranded, do I??) which could be a 3 week wait!!

So, car - 1 week old. Hire car, 3 weeks old.

So frustrating, I can't even see whats hit it?!?!?!?

had the same a few weeks back from a motorbike ovetaking where all of the stone gather in the middle of the road.
Spat up a 20mm stone which caused a 12" crack within a few hours of driving.

Was it a stone or manufactuing defect? If its popped after a week, and there's no evidence of a chip, I'd try it on with the dealer.
