Orders/Allocations

Just wondering how long people here typically took to get a production number?

I put down a deposit almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't gotten a production number from my dealer. First I was told that the order would go in "right away"... then a week later I emailed and got no response. Today emailed again and cc'd the sales manager. Finally got a call back saying they're putting in my order "today", which was a little frustrating as it's been > 10 days...

Anyway, from what I've read up, dealers are known to give their customers a bit of a run around when they dont have an allocation for production - I ordered 1st week of feb with the hopes of having my car by May, which the dealer assured me was a realistic timeline. I'm thinking now that if i dont get a march production, then i'm looking at at least april for production, and likely no delivery till late may/early june.

Does all this sound pretty typical? I'm a little frustrated... had they have just been up front and said "hey, it's unlikely that you'll get a march production" i would have been cool with that, but to tell me that i'd have an order in right away and not even attempt put the order through for 2 weeks (and who knows if it's even done now) is pretty shitty.

tl;dr: put order in 2 weeks ago, still dont have any confirmation production number - how long should this take?

It took me roughly 4 weeks to get my allocation number, 2-3 weeks after that you should be able to get a VIN.

Makes sure you check your VIN once you have it, BMW almost gave me the incorrect car..

The enitre process takes roughly 3-4 months.

Hope that helps!

Cheers.

Thanks! I actually got the number yesterday (7 digits, starts with 86xxxxx). Called up BMW Canada and they confirmed that the order was put in, but couldn't confirm any of the options. I'm assuming they put in the option list properly as they confirmed it with me before putting in the order - only thing I'd be concerned about is that i ordered with the staggered performance tires rather than the all seasons that most dealers here seem to stock. Hopefully they don't mess that one up. Hoping to have the car by May, but they might be wishful thinking...

Who is providing the VIN: the SA or BMW Canada?

You'll have it before May. I'd bet mid to 3rd week of April. Usually 7 weeks from the time you get the production number.

Really... you think that quickly?

I i suppose 2-3 weeks to go to production, 1 week production, 3-4 weeks to get to dealer... you're probably right. Hopefully this lack of snow is the norm for the rest of the year. I've gotten away with only shoveling the driveway once

It'll be close, but definitely won't be June. If it's June, your dealer is doing something funky. When you get your VIN, go here to verify the details of your car http://www.bimmer.work/

Keep your shovel handy...looks like we'll be getting 15 to 20cm next Wed/Thurs.

Sounds like yours will be on the same boat as mine or just before as mine will be done by this week from my understanding... Trying to patiently wait.

Fantastic! Worst case I would bet delivered around first week of May - plenty of time to enjoy the spring and summer! Keep us posted!

You can also call BMW Canada from time to time with your VIN and ask at what stage your car is at.

The hard part will be when your car is on the boat. There are ways to track what boat it's on and ETA to Halifax port, but it can be a bit of a black hole for a couple of weeks until it lands at the port.

Once it's confirmed on the boat from Bremerhaven it is 13 days to Halifax.
If you have the VIN you can verify the boat it's on and track it coming across the ocean, pretty cool. Check out the delivery sticky forum.

Cheers.

I just my production number and scheduled for week 14, my lease is end of May so I think I should be good.

I guess there's a Christmas shutdown at the plant that would slow things down based on a Dec 10th order. Sounds like you'll have it soon.

Was looking at the VINs and production dates and looks like they were going in sequence of 15 cars a day last week, so i was hoping mine would start Monday or Tuesday, but they're down to like 2-3 a day this week, lol. sequentially, i should be next in line, so I'm guessing it'll start production tomorrow morning

Is there a thread for Canadian pricing? Looking to pull the trigger on an M235 vert but wanted to know what kind of discounts people are seeing...

We placed an order on Thursday March 10th. They were able to use an allocation and swap out that for our order. According to our dealership our car will go into production next week (wk of the 14th). We were told about 4 weeks after production. So I'm thinking around April 18th.
