Without doubt, the best 'small' executive saloon / estate currently available. The straight six petrol makes it.

Totally annoying commentary!!!!

However, a F31 340i in Individual is still top of my list.

Sticking to a poverty spec though, HUD, adaptive lights, electric seats, folding mirrors, pro media, speed sign, heated seats and wheel and pano roof, oh and electric tow bar'

Will likely skip on the rest TBH.

Hardly a poverty spec there mate!

I thought I went all out this time with the following
340i F30
M Sport Plus
Sports Auto
Media Pro
Heated Seats
Sliding Arm rest ! lol

My last F30 had nothing but the M Sport Plus and I was over the moon with it. Occasionally annoyed about the lesser size Media screen and no Sat Nav but I still loved it.

I find myself searching for videos every day now. Shame there are no 340 touring ones bar the annoying videos of pictures with random music playing!

Totally agree. Probably on the next generation of 3 series. I would of been more interested in buying one and paying a bit extra.

Yes will probably do the same on mine although I might wait a few months until BMW start offering a few discounts as alternative manufacturers also make a product for the 340

What makes you say that out of interest?

Would be interesting to know what the sales split is of a model which is available as both S-Drive and X-Drive (e.g. the 330d). However, presumably BMW have decided not to produce the 340i/440i as X-Drive in for the UK market because they don't think sufficient demand will be there?

My F31 335d is the first AWD car I've had and got to say I'm not entirely convinced the traction advantages are worth the disbenefits of extra weight, inferior fuel consumption, etc. However, perhaps I'm being influenced by the fact mine's a pre-LCI car which, even with adaptive, has a chassis which falls some way short of the Ultimate Driving Machine IMO.

Can't see it happening, not at all.

Maybe for the G Model.

However the 3 series has passed its LCI point, the 4 is approaching it.

There is not an engine they can pop in to the 3 litre petrol.

So you are looking at mppk and performance exhaust.

However, I can see the G series being launched with an M340i from the start.

With the 20i engine disappearing and only the 320e / 330e being an option.

I really like 4wd. I had a Carlos Sainz Celica GT4 many years ago and it completely sold 4wd to me. I'm not a driving God, I just like making fast progress.

The reason BMW haven't offered an Xdrive variant on the 340i in the UK is because it's a right hand drive market. The shape of the engine in the bay means there isn't enough space to accommodate Xdrive components unless it's a left hand drive build. Something to do with the steering and dash components I believe.

That's one of the main reasons why BMW never brought the M550d to the UK market- no space for a third turbo in right hand drives

Thanks Chris, I have always wondered why. I think I would of gone for a M550d if we would of got them! I read in a mag a few weeks ago about a quad turbo version for the next version...
