Trade in value horrible after dieselgate

So im moving to another country and i decided to try to sell my wifes 328d sedan to carmax, an audi dealer, and a bmw dealer. I looked up the value on kbb and nada and it gave me between 27-30k in trade in value retail around 34k. Went to the audi dealer first since it was the closest and they offered 22, bmw offered 26 and carmax 25. All of them said they were scared of buying diesels because people are scared of buying them after the vw fiasco.

Just a heads up my car was a 2014 328D M-Sport with 19k miles white on black premium package, moonroof, nav, parking camera and sensors, leather, alarm system. No hits or scratches and 26 is the most i got offered .

I was going trade my car in a while back for another brand and the first offer got my blood boiling at 22500 max and at another was 26 max. I'm a msport ever opinion except hud. My car loss over 50% of it vaule in 1.5 years. That why a lot of people just lease good luck with everything

I've been wondering what the VW fiasco would do to our car values. This doesn't surprise me. Maybe we join a class action suit to recover 'diminished value'? :-)

Seriously, over time I'd hope that if the EPA makes a statement concerning other brands diesel vehicles that our values would rise as used cars. There are enough diesel heads out there that it's a possibility.

why are you surprised? you tried to unload your car the worst possible way.

At least with a trade in the dealer sells a car, thats why it would be 27k-30k range.

Life is strange I join the forum because I have never owned a BMW. Bought the car in question above two weeks ago. Very, very nice car. Adding a few RW Carbon pieces (Lip spoiler and trunk spoiler) and I am done. I own two VW TDI's as well. Made a reasonably good deal on car. Lots of torque. Wife loves it.

With the diesel scandal and cheap gas prices? No wonder people are shying away!

Dealers use all sorts of reasons to try and pay you less so they can turn the best profit they can. Dieselgate is just another excuse that they may use just cause..

Definitely, can you imagine the salesman/women when selling it...

"oh no sir/madame, the diesel gate scandal is just talk, it will have absolutely no impact on the resale value if you buy this car. In fact once it's all blown over you car will in fact be worth more than you paid for it. It's a wise investment that you can't lose on"

I tried to trade in a gasoline engined 328i and was offered $26,500 for it from a local dealer. After the whole diselgate scandal, they offered me $18,000 for it. I told them it wasn't a diesel but they didn't care. For the fact it was a German car, they didn't particularly want to touch it, especially at the original trade in appraisal price.
