I have the Macht Schell unit and it works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier.... Aside from the ridiculous price that is.

Bought it from EAS when it first came out in a bid to appease the neighbours, but forcing the valves shut did little to mute the deafening cold start noise.

Still... a very handy unit.

If only you could reduce cold start sound I think the car would then be perfect

Using the supplied wire taps? 10-15 minute job.
Discarding the supplied wire taps, cutting, splicing and soldering the wires yourself? 30 minute job.

Either way, piss easy job...

Stuart, is BMR doing bench-flash tunes for F8Xs?

I've had both Macht Schnell and JB4 and the Macht Schnell module is better in the way that you can program it to default the exhaust flap position to open, closed or auto every time you switch off the car.
Doesn't sound like much, but you know about it if you forget to shut the valves and cold start with the exhaust open first thing in the morning!

Excuse my stupid question but what is a bench flash tune,
Does it code out cold start
Does it cause potential warranty issues

Maybe it's because I only just got my M (X5M), but I can't imagine wanting that cold start sound to be stopped. For now i've just done the valve mod (unplug cables) to get the valves open permanently, but there is a little drone. So this Macht Schnell system sounds like it would be handy to close the valves on the go when i'm on the highway, but still have an option to open them, even when in efficiency mode.

Been reading about CG Precision. You can use Homelink buttons to open and close valves.

Sorry for the late reply here,

Flash tune is just a way to distinguish this particular type of tune, rather than a 'piggyback tune'.
The piggybacks work by plugging into a few sensors in the engine bay and fooling the engine into running higher power.
The flash tune is a remap on the ECU, it's much more comprehensive as we're able to access a lot more info and parameters.

Yes we can code out cold start
If the flash tune is discovered while making a warranty claim there could be issues. I always recommend flashing back to stock before making any warranty claim (we make a backup and keep your stock file prior to making any changes)

After you bench-molest the ECU, you can flash the car back to stock, and then back to modified mapping through the OBD port right?

How long does this take, and how much do you charge, each time we need to put her in for service?

I would LOVE to get rid of cold start.
