idrive backup cam

I know this question hass probably been beaten to death but...can you integrate a backup camera into the stock 2009+ idrive system without having PDC??

The simple answer is yes.

Some kits and DIY options will use emulators that need a signal from the car that you are in reverse - PDC is where most of these options pull that signal. In those cases, you would need PDC.

But there are options that you can integrate without PDC. Check out bimmer-tech.net

There are many, many threads on this DIY mod

Yes I retrofitted it on my 09 auto non PDC.
With coding and correct wiring your set. Simply diy I followed the same link some else posted above.

how did you power it up instead of using the PDC module?
...im on page 5 on that DIY its very vague so far lol...some ppl saying just buy the PDC module w/o the sensors, or use the reverse lights...etc.

The emulator powers the camera.
The emulator gets power from radio.
When I did the retrofit someone had a wiring diagram up and the seller also provided a wiring diagram.

I want to add a back up camera to my 2011 too... manual and it has PDC... I been searching but I cannot locate the module everyone is mentioning
