19" for road and track or 19" for road and 18" for track?
Hi all, i just order my M3 with 19"wheel (with no 18" offer in my country Hong Kong).
Here is my options 1) stock 19" on road and aftermarket 18" on track 2) try to swaps stock 19" to 18" for track used, and aftermarket 19" on road 3) stock 19" on track and aftermarket 19" on road. Personally i would stick 19" on road as the better outlooked, but base on the performance wise on the track, i would perfer 18"on track (becuase i am not so sure if it is a good idea to use 19" on track) ......so it is a hard choice for me and it is kinda waste to have aftermarket 18" for track used only.......any suggestion? thanks alot~~ sorry if i just asked a silly question as i am new to BMW~~~ |

The 19's look great but make the ride a little rough. plus its common knowledge that smaller and wider tires are better for the track. But if your M3 will be a daily driver I'd say go 19"

very limited R compound tire selection in 19" if that's what you plan to run, they also usually work best with a much more aggressive alignment from stock which may or may not be possible without mods.

the correct answer then for you is:
1) stock 19" on road and aftermarket 18" on track there are very few 19 inch track tires avail. normally the 18 icnh will perform better too. lighter wheels and better tires avail.

So why not 18" on the road too? That's what I'm inclined to do but don't consider myself an expert by any stretch

We already know Sprot Cup+ comes in the proper size. 18s are better for track use and less expensive, though.

Of course, from that point of view. But 19s can offer pretty much the same performance, if you get the right ones, and you can even use them everyday if your heart desires!

OEM 18's for the track, and aftermarket 19's for the street.

The more I think about it, I may not even go for 19" aftermarket on the street. It will only be for looks (IMHO) and I am more of an advocate of function over form anyway. I may actually purchase a lighter "forged" 18" rim for my track work and keep the OEM for the street. Decisions, Decisions......

the Cup tires are expensive and wear out very fast on a heavy M3, especially with stock suspension. (front camber)
