Golf R Buying Advice

Well I think we have plumped for a Golf R as the replacement for my wife's Fiesta ST2 which comes to the end of its PCP in June.

Have any of you recently bought a new VW and if so have you an equivalent contact to TRL/Riaz whom I can organise a deal with?

Thanks

A friend of mine got a cracking deal from the VW dealer in Swindon on an R. Have you considered the GTi Clubsport it is meant to be a cracking car and I suspect the residuals will be a lot better than the R.

You sure you don't want the GTI clubsport? Cheaper and pushes the R to the limit on track.......

Have you considered a GTi club sport? They are supposed to be very good you know....

The residuals on the Golf R are quite bad I think?

When I bought my GTD I used Carwow to get a few decent offers and then got Cheltenham VW to match the deal for a car they had coming in 2 weeks. They sponsor the Golf GTI forum, guy called Lee, I could search out an email if needed but punt around a few places if you have time.

There are a lot of unregistered R models about now it seems so deals should be possible. VW dealer in Belfast have 5 or 6 new ones lined up outside and with VW dealers being a bit low on sales at the moment I reckon it's a good time to turn up. There are loyalty deals available to any current VW owner or family if you know anyone willing to let you in on that. Think it's a grand on a Golf.

Club Sport is definitely of interest but talking with a few dealers they seem to know two fifths of fuck all about when they will have any details let alone when the order book will open.

Clubsport looks a great car but would annoy me that only occasionally puts out max power, and also still front wheel drive only vs the R even if residuals will be better. Also as a competitor it may end up looking poor value against a Cupra 280...

I agree with your overall choice but....

Interior agree not great, exterior subjective, but to drive sorry what exactly made it 'shite' that EVO didn't notice when making it one of the shortlisted cars for ECOTY?!

I thought the 280 drove well when I tried one. Doesn't suit longer distances as much as an F30 but as a hot hatch it's a good one. The pain with it is you really have to play about with the steering, throttle, damper and diff settings to get the best out of the car. This takes time and wouldn't be something you'd likely do on your average test drive.

Think we are doing an about turn and going to test drive an M135i.

C2C are offering circa £7k off list price which brings them down to circa £25-26k which the Golf deals can't get close to.

Plus the lure of an I6 engine is appealing having only ever owned 4 cylinder cars.

And the M135i is soon to become the M140i. Guess which the majority of buyers will want hence a big old depreciation bath.

Is this really happening then, had a quick browse the other day and it was a matter of opinion / debate.
Interested as I test drove a 135 last weekend so still on the list.
Did also read that there were some downsides to new engine ?

Perceived wisdom is mate the N55 is well tried and tested, the B series engine not so.

M135i will become M140i for MY2017, which is from September build.

People will perceive it to be better so a 2016 135i will be worth a lot less than a 2016 140i.
