I wouldn't mind this resto-mod(Foose). Updated chassis, suspension, brakes, cage, LS engine....even the hood is airbrushed(no decal). It would be some fun t-top driving.

The TA was top of the American muscle car pile throughout early and mid 70's. It slipped quickly when Pontiac dumped the Olds 403 in and still called it a TA 6.6.

If you can find a 1979 400 Pontiac 4 speed with WS6 package you have a rare bird and is worth some good coin.

I had a 1977 "Hurst Gold Edition" with the 400/ 4 speed combo and it was plenty quick for the time.

They are one-offs made specifically for this car and resemble the original TA wheel style.

You sound like a real car guy. You're also wrong with your estimate.

"The Trans Am has a pre-auction estimate of $60,000 to $80,000, but with more than a week to go, bidding has already reached $70,000."

A low 15-second car was "plenty quick" for you?

The speed and acceleration of most factory muscle cars is grossly exaggerated, even in their late-1960s heyday. Except for the Cobra or a few models with specific, ultra-rare, low-production engines fitted to them, most were no quicker than today's average family sedan. An Accord or Camry V6 would have dominated the drag strip back then.
