I changed the wheels on the car and sensors in the new wheels are not compatible with the car. I think the frequency might be different. So I need to get the correct sensor.

Car came with 19 inch wheels and now I have 18 inch wheel. I got the frequency details from BMW so it is 433 M Hz frequency sensors.

My question is do I need BMW original TPMS sensor or I can get any sensor from the tire shop with same frequency and get it installed.

I am not sure what all is involved in the TPMS sensor and need some help.

no. you cant just buy any 433mhz sensor. the frequency may be the same, but how the data is encoded and transmitted varies from make to make, and even from model year to model year. you need the sensors specific to your model and model year.

example, the sensors from my 2013 F30 do not work on my 2016 F34 despite both being "433mhz"

I just got back from Discount tire and they replaced the sensors and it is still not working. I pressed reset TPMS and drove for over 10 miles and it is not resetting.

Tire shop confirmed that these are reading the pressure. Do we need any kind of programming once we install the new sensor to tell the car about it since the resetting option in the car is not working.

I got a set from tire rack for my winter tires and they work fine. There are apparently two different types based on the build date of the car...wonder if that is your issue.

When I had my winter tires and wheels put on the car "recognized" the new sensors and gave an iDrive message stating "adjust / check tire pressures then resent TPMS". The new sensors and current tire pressures are now set as default. I, just for fun, deflated a tire and moved the car a bit and got a Low pressure warning.

In your case since you didn't change the wheel no need to change the sensors. Normally when you change tire, there is no issue.
In my case I changed the wheels and they never took the sensors from the old wheel so I got the new set of sensors.

You are right about the same frequency might not work. Sensor I had on my car originally was actually 433MHz but when I checked the part number it was not compatible with my car. So the place I bought the car from must have replaced the wheel from 2014 model car. I found the exact part number for my car.

Do we only have to use BMW original sensor? If yes, then if I buy that from BMW dealer and installed it at Discount Tire. Will it work or will I still need programming/Coding done in order for sensors to work.

Ah ok, so they probably just changed the valve and grommets but not the sensors.

you can get them from tire rack. if they are the correct sensors they will work with just a reset

I went through all this last year when I bought a set of APEX 18" EC7 wheels for my 335i. You have to get the correct sensor according to your build date - apparently, the sensors changed for build dates from March 2014 onward. Best bet is to get the exact same ones that the car was delivered with. You can order them from several online TPMS suppliers, such as Shop TPMS. For pre-March 2014, I needed a HUF RDE012, which is black in color. If you have a newer car, you'll need to look up the correct part or, if possible, look at the part number on your sensor. It'll look like this:

Would it be possible to use 315Mhz sensors on a car that is currently running 433mhz?

Based on the REALOEM Part number I have bought new sensors for my second tire set and today, I removed one of the tires as I needed to do some job on the wheel and I saw that the TPMS was 433mhz

Nope. I got a set of aftermarket TPMS sensors for my winter wheels from Town Fair Tire a local spot in the NE area and have had no issues.

If 315Mhz are not working 100% then I would buy another set and try to sell those.

Gave my VIN to these guys and they supplied the correct TPMS at the lowest price that I could find.

Can you transfer the sensors from your stock wheels to your new wheels? That’s what I did when I got new wheels. I didn’t need to buy new sensors.

Hi Guys, I have a 2015, BMW 428i Grand coupe with stock 17” wheels. I just purchased a set of M4 wheel sized at 255/35/19” (Front) and 275/35/19” (Rear).

The new wheels came of a M4 with TPMS. Can I just install those wheels on my car without changing the TPMS? If I do, would I have any errors on the TPMS? I read some people saying put your old sensors and the new wheels but that’s a lot of work.

What do you guys recommend?

What year was the M4? If it’s new enough your car should just relearn the new sensors.
Was it 2014 or 2015 for the changeover
