Anyone ever bought a phone off eBay ( brand new ) ?

Just wondering if any you guys have ever bought a phone off eBay ? My contract is coming to an end and the new contract deals I'm seeing are just ridiculously expensive this time round, plus they now all state that the monthly fee ( usually well over £50 ) will increase each year ! So iv started looking at just buying the phone outright and getting a sim only deal. i have noticed there are some really good deals on eBay, the particular phone I'm after ( Samsung Note 4 ) can be had for £100 less than it would be in most phone shops, the sellers have all good feedback and clearly sell lots of phones but i don't know I'm just a little concerned at how much cheaper they can provide the phones compared to the shops. Phones are listed as brand new sealed in box, they also sell refurbished phones which are very cheap but no keen to go down that route.

What do use think too good to be true or have any use bought phones from eBay and its worked out ok

It'll likely be a cheap import.

There's loads of websites who will sell you the same imported phones. Some do tell you that it is, some don't

Reading the feedback and warranty terms of these websites, it's very much hit or miss.

I'm so fed up of eBay these days. I've barely used it in the last couple of years and most of the things I've bought have turned out to be rubbish.

From the dodgy purchases I've made recently, I've left negative feedback, but the seller has managed to get them removed.

For example a guy was selling genuine Samsung chargers. I bought two and none of them worked. They feel and look cheap and not like the originals.

Logged back in to see about 8 people with the exact same issues.

Raised my complaint, looked back later to see all the negatives had been removed!

Ebay has gone down the pan where everyone gets away with ripping each other off and being deceitful.

Ebay is now just full of cheap Chinese rubbish. I regularly see "UK" sellers often buy in a load of cheap Chinese rubbish, claim it's shipping from the UK so it's UK and therefore "good" and "reliable" when in actual fact it's anything but.

Some things are fine but TBH it's just another market place and often no cheaper than anywhere else on the internet.

If you're after Samsung chargers, unless you're buying from a proper phone shop or something, it'll most likely be fake. I can throughly recommend Anker USB leads. Seriously good quality.

No thanks mate, going to stick with Samsung for now. stick it on Gumtree, I put my old iPhone on there and it was sold within hours.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 from eBay, brand new... Definitely an import as they didn't bring the model to the UK... Been working fine for 3 months and I love it

The issue is if something goes wrong with it though.

There's loads of websites selling phones, and when you read the warranty T&Cs, your warranty is with the seller and limited.

Hopefully that doesn't come into play.

I've had a dreadful record with phones. They never last even though I do take good care of them.

My Samsung Galaxy S5 is now 20 months old and hasn't missed a beat. The little flap that you have to open to charge it has lost the little lip to close properly though. I've never tried to see how waterproof it is.

It certainly has been far better than anything before.

Just bought an S6 off Amazon for £350. Decent phone. On a contract ive had for 6 years now. unlimited data, 500 mins, unlimited texts, £15.00. If I change my contract that will cost a lot more. I dont use a lot of data though as WiFi is everywhere. I suspect if I did they'd be phoning me saying im taking the piss.

Negotiate harder on the contracts. You shouldn't need more than £20/month if buying your own phone, and even then you'd have to be using a LOT of data.

Spoke too early about not having problems with my Galaxy S5.

The last couple of weeks the charging has got worse. Some leads were worse than others, but it was getting worse by the day.

I took it back to the shop I bought it as it's still under its 2 year warranty. They advised me it would be away for weeks at this time of year.

The other advice was to pop into Edinburgh(I was local at the time) and there is a Samsung repair centre on Hanover Street.

Phone dropped off, a little bit of shopping, then the phone was ready to pick up with a new USB point fitted.

Really happy with that level of service.

I purchased a Motorola v3x back in the days. $300 something. Coolest kidd in school because it was not available in the states.

And I think before that the Motorola v635, again not available in the states.

Both purchased on ebay back around 2004-2005. No issues whatsoever!
