ECU tuning N57 diesel engine

I am looking at installing Snow Performance methanol/water injection system as I see that it will take down the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) in a fairly cost-efficient way.

If you get to high EGT's then you will actually fry your exhaust turbo turbine as it will not get red, but blue hot and the flanges will melt and the whole thing will go unbalaced and total turbo failure.

With methanol/water 50/50 ratio you have a later ignition and denser air and more fuel in the cylinder. The BMW M4 pacecar video is probably common knowledge here:

Diesel Water/Methanol injection

I am putting in about 1200 USD for the water injection system from Snow performace with mounting and 500-1000 USD for the ECU tuning/dynometer
(4-wheel drive remember) in budget.

My aim is to maintain EGT and have about 380 HP and 700 Nm as the ZF gearbox is limited for that amount of torque. Changing standard RTF tires for Michelin Pilot sport 255s and 275s on 19" should be less rotation weight, better grip and cooler looks too.

I already have a M Performance dual Exhaust and hence less pressure behind the turbos, but I will leave the particle filter on.

Cold Air intake seems to me be a total waste of time and money. If you want cooler air, go for a race-grade intercooler then. Any suggestions for a better intercooler to the 435d? I need standard numbers and improved numbers, not just opinions.

Why?

Diesel runs a much lower EGT than petrol in the first place (The reason VNT is OK on diesels but not on petrols) . And as there are no known issues with the frying you talk of on a 335d, so I do wonder why you are choosing to go down this route....

There seems to be many 335d's mapped or fitted with tuning boxes that get around the numbers you talk about with no reported issues.

The E90post diesel sub-forum has had numerous discussions of EGT and methanol, with and without tunes; this is one of the better ones: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...4#post18649964
The TDIwyse guy knows his shit and posted this link: http://www.bankspower.com/techarticl...t-is-important

TDIwyse has got his 335d (M57) to run an 11.8s 1/4 mile - he's posted a couple threads (on e90post and bimmerfest) about his mods. That's on his daily driver.

I have no doubt if you want to squeeze the maximum out of your engine, and have no problem deleting EGR's, DPF's, CAT, etc then there is merit in doing what TDIwyse has done. However the OP of this thread is not going to remove the DPF, and isn't going to exceed the 700Nm gearbox limit. That being the case, he is going down a very expensive route to solve an issue he won't even have.

Anyway, it's his money and car, so who am I to comment....

Chiptuning goes from 313 to 390 HP and generate 700 Nm from orginal
630 Nm. With water/metanol injection I get better fuel economy, less
emissions and still have a car that is street-normal. Removing DPF is not
an option in my book. I am not t h a t keen in getting further and the
original gear box takes 700 Nm good enough for me.
