Removal of an illegally parked vehicle?
We have some private land that adjoins our drive. For the past 6 months someone has dumped their rust bucket there... a friendly check via a Police force friend suggests that it is not insured and the owner actually lives up our street. There is no valid tax disc on the car either but that stuff has gone digital anyway. I complete a V888 form and the DVLA provided us with an address and contact. We have written to the owner but the owner has not removed the vehicle.
I am very close to having it towed away... is there anything I can do? The Police said they cannot do anything. The council refused too. Owner is a scum bag with 4 cars - she lives by herself and I don't see the need for 4 rust buckets... it is causing a lot of urban decay. We are getting yobs coming on to our land to sit on the car or just abuse it... our street was fairly clean until the vehicle was dumped by the owner. Any input appreciated. |

Jack it up. Put something with wheels under it and push it onto the public road. Remove wheels. Wait for the council etc to take it.

Had the same problem with a car down our road not long ago.
Had the same refusal/reluctance from the police and local council too. However, did find out a way with our council to report an abandoned vehicle - which I did. The first response I got back form the council said they'd checked with the DVLA and the car was still taxed, so they couldn't do anything. I then replied saying it may well be taxed, but in my opinion a car that was looking abandoned (honestly, it was covered in bird shit all over, leaves and tree debris literally piled up on the windscreen and all around the car) and not only was it highly likely to start attracting antisocial behaviour activities, but it also was likeley to pose a public health and safety risk owing to the massive collection of bird shit it was sporting. Funnily enough, that afternoon, the car disappeared. They will be more inclined to do something if you say it's attracting yoofs and it's being vandalised, or that there's sharp bits of glass, or rusty protrusions, etc that might hurt someone (ie: the council don't want some claim against them). |

have you done a tax check on DVLA site?
If it isn't taxed, try and move it onto the road then report it for no tax.

Just out of interest, why haven't you had it towed already by a private company? If it's on your private land, a quick call would get it removed and any costs would go to the owner surely?

you have all jumped to the conclusion that it is HIS private land. that is not clear in the original post.
he doesn't say its parked on his garden or drive, he said its parked on "some private land". and as such might be parked there completely legally with the land owners permission. |

Yeah. I was thinking perhaps it wasn't that straight cut. 'We have some private land' infers it's the OPs though. Weird to differentiate it between the drive I suppose. If not the OPs, who owns the land?

Yes it is our land. It adjoins the house... drive way going around to the back of the house...
Yes gave the owner a cut off of 28 days... Can't get any photos... gave them all to the Police to identify the yobs. That helped... as they keep an eye out for them when they patrol... Loving the ideas though! Brilliant. Thanks... can't say what I will do... but it is one of the above! Really appreciate it. |

Tow it off your land into the road, then report to police as abandoned vehicle obstructing the road. Have done this before in a very similar situation and the car was removed within an hour :-)

What an annoying problem to have!
As above i would build a fence & add CCTV. So if the owner decides to return & drive it away, she will be driving without insurance! |

Well, depending on the terms of your letter, you have two choices really.
1. The whole, jack up, McDonalds trays under the wheels, push into road and abandon. 2. Private towing company and instruct the company to recover all costs from the shit heap owner. |

Haha another brilliant idea. Sorry about not adding photos. No memory on phone. You'd think 64Gb of iPhone would hold at least one but I use mine for music and apps only.

I find it pretty suspect your not adding pictures... like your not telling us something in order to paint this picture in your favour.
how did you supply pictures to the police if you cant post them here? it's like I'm watching Fox news! supply us all the information instead of what you've decided to cherry pick. |

Personally, i would not post pictures that will reveal the layout of my property. You have to remember this is not a private forum, anyone can view it & possibly use it for sinister reasons. (Unlikely yes, but possible) |

LOL @ the Fox News comment!
But honestly, not sure what pictures would bring to the party myself. There's a shitbox car owned by someone who lives elsewhere, parked on someone else's property - doesn't need much more detail does it? It's exactly the situation of the one that was down our road. The question is how can the guy get the thing taken away or moved - not what it looks like, or how it's parked. Not that I'd suggest vandalising someone else's property even if it is on your land, but just saying, if that were to happen, the council or police would be more inclined to get it taken away. well he has painted the picture of a shit box car dumped on his property, attracting yobs from all over who use it to party on. what it could actually be is just an older car, parked on a non-descript peice of land beside a drive way.
his portrayal of the situation has attracted lots of malicious responses. where as had he painted the situation in a better light, people may not have been so quick to jump to a malicious solution. for example, if this "Rust Bucket" turned out to be an E30 M3, or other classic, would your responses have been the same? the fact that he's not showing us the situation makes me think its not as bad as its made out, and does not warrant him tampering with someone else's property. |

Yes, they would be the same for me mate.
If the OP says it's his land, then it's his land IMO. It's a discusson forum, not a legal court hearing that needs evidence of land ownership and boundaries. If any car, be it a 1982 Fiesta or a Gallardo was parked on my land without my permission, I'd want it moved. That is fair and reasonable. |
