Motortrend 750i xDrive G11 Full Test

http://m.motortrend.com/roadtests/se...ve-first-test/

Hmmmm they don't seem to like the ride and handling combination too much. Interesting.

Was hoping it was better than the S-class in that department.

I'm starting to get the feeling that the Autobahn package is a make-or-break feature on this car for enthusiasts.

I can't see if it was on the car in this review? I didn't see any mention of it, or rear-wheel steering.

"Body roll was also an issue on the track. And even though, like the S-Class, the 750i has technology that continuously scans the road to adjust the drive experience based on conditions ahead, this feature isn't enough to help it match the ride quality of the Mercedes."

It had the autobahn package. That feature is only included with that package.

This is one stupid review filled with outrageous statement:

"This thing is all over the road," Lieberman said. "How does this happen? Every time you move your eyes, the car slides into oncoming traffic."

Really??? that's what usually happens when you take your eyes off the road!!

"The 750i xDrive suffered from speed-sapping midcorner understeer on the track—to the point where both front tires were trashed—and numb steering everywhere else," Angus MacKenzie noted after his latest round driving the 750i.

How many people do that on their way to work or when picking up the kids?

Why do I get the feeling MT doesn't like BMW very much.
European carmags been more positive and 7er already beaten both S-class and A8 in various comparisons. Some of them even say ride comfort is up there with S-class at the same time driving dynamics are superior compare to a S-class. So is this another rant from MT?

I think European 7's may have differently tuned suspensions. The MT and some of the test drive posts sound very similar to a Chinese review I watched a month ago. Basically the reviewer in the Chinese review said the car he tested (gas version 740) is floatier and doesn't have the traditional BMW feel, and steering was numb. However when he tried the d versions meant for European markets only, the driving dynamics were noticeably better.

I think maybe for Asian and US markets, BMW simply made the car less of a driving machine in general, due to customer demand.

All 7-series sold world wide have the same suspension tuning. They no longer change them for different markets per BMW.

This is actually the first negative review I've read about the ride and handling -- especially given the introduction of the all-new four-wheel air suspension, but I'm taking it with a grain of salt. Most reviews have been from the perspective of an individual driver -- to wit: Sam's excellent review http://www.7post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1181556

Because the MT review was written from the perspectives of multiple drivers who took turns driving the car, they tended to egg one another on a bit. And, yes, some of the complaints are just ridiculous (body roll; car sliding into oncoming traffic; etc.). These claims look ridiculous when compared to what other professional drivers are saying about the car.
