BMS Catch Can Review

http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_335_oil_catch_can.html

Car: 2009 e90 335i n54
FBO, stock turbos, e30 fuel

Today I decided to write a review on the burger motorsport catch can. My car is not a designated daily driver I have another vehicle so I pretty much drive my car whenever I feel like it and usually I have race gas or e85 in it. I do all types of driving in the car like highway miles, around town, and I rip on it any chance I get depending on how the car is driven I will change my oil anywhere from 3500 to 4500 miles with the BMW synthetic. During this review and video I took, the catch can had about 6k miles of use while being drained.

Product: Immediately taking it out of the box you will notice it is a quality piece of equipment. It is definitely not a China made piece of crap. The threading is extremely tight and leaves a perfect seal. The only issue I had was the way my hoses were package left one of them kinked but it eventually worked itself out.

Install: Other then the satanic four point clips on the PCV system the install of this product is extremely simple and straightforward. Depending on how efficient you are at getting those clips off without breaking them, this is a easy 30 minute job. I'd rate this install a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. So really any of you guys can do this yourself. I did not take pictures of myself installing it because there are photos on the burger motorsport website and I didn't feel the need to.

Cleaning: So my recent oil change I just did I decided to film myself emptying out the catch can. I'm not 100% sure but I drove anywhere from 4000 to 6000 miles without emptying it. Those miles definitely included some quarter-mile times and a lot of Highway pulls ha ha. As you can see from the video it clearly took in A decent amount of oil. I simply dump it out into my old oil can and then wipe it clean with a new rag and that is all. It is definitely a great product it works exactly the way they say and I've had no issues with it.

It's such a simple product there's not much more to say about it. If anyone is interested in buying one I would recommend getting one.

Quality 10/10
Install 3/10

Hardest part of the install is disconnecting the PCV hose.

Using a hair dryer definitely made it easier to separate the 2 pieces also, if anyone is looking for tips.

Having a spare hose on hand for when you get angry and break it off in a fit of rage helps too!

Funny, I had two because I replaced the old with a new one during my VCG replacement. The old one that I pulled got to be the guinea pig. Sure enough, I ripped it apart from one of the ribs. I applied more heat on the new one and it came apart pretty easily.

True. I pulled my VRSF FMIC out after about 400 miles and didn't see a single drop because I waited till I had my RB PCV and catch can in prior to installing it.

Yup thats the way to go! Always recommend those when getting a new FMIC. I've poured a bunch of oil out of several FMIC before. Its rather sad how much oil can get trapped in there.

I've heard quite a few random negative things about the product so I figured I would write a positive one for anyone looking into it

Really.. I haven't seen much negative stuff mostly positive. The only semi negative I see is people who haven't caught any oil, but thats car dependant and how you drive your car dependant.

I guess whatever works!

I started with hair dryer as I had an industrial heat gun but figured it would melt the thing haha.

Hair dryer is enough for anyone looking into it.

This OCC setup works great with single turbo cars. It's practically a requirement!
