Purchasing in Canada and Import to US to save $
So this is just an idea, I'm not going to run down the #'s since I'm not gonna be buying another BMW for a couple of years, but a quick look appears that you may be able to save money buying in Canada and importing the vehicle.
I saw the thread with more details here: http://slickdeals.net/f/8171830-25-o...da-bring-to-us From a quick look at the BMW website, Canadian cars cost around 5-10% more in CA dollars, however, the exchange rate is $1 US to $1.30 CA. You have to take into account added import fees, CA taxes etc (some can possibly be recouped)...and of course a pain in the ass, but pretty substantial savings could be realized. Like I said, not worth my time right now, but for a savy buyer close the border, this is a good starting point! |

I spent most of my life in the Car business, and have played the import and export game on hundreds of cars. When the Canadian dollar was weak, we exported preowned cars into the US and vice versa when the Canadian Dollar was strong. Do ALL of you homework before committing to buying in Canada and importing into the US. but a few things to mention. Some dealers are bound by different agreements with the Manufacturers, than their American counterparts. When I was a Ford Dealer there were very strict rules about selling a new vehicle that ended up being for export into the USA. Some Dealers actually LOST their franchises over it. So don't be surprised if you are told they can't help you. Also keep in mind that if you buy a Canadian Car and import it into the US it will be worth significantly less on trade in. I am now faced with this problem. My wife and I moved to Florida 16 months ago from Canada with her 2012 Land Rover LR4. It's a nice truck, no accidents and low mileage and I can't give the thing away because it's a Metric, Canadian truck( Even with a florida title, duties and taxes are all paid in full) |

Could that be because no one wants an out-of-warranty Range Rover?
