Yes, that's what I had to do when my battery died last week.. Just used the terminals in the engine bay and even with my battery disconnected it still gave me enough juice from a jump to open my doors and trunk..

You can connect the clamps directly to the terminals/posts inside the engine. There's no need to put the negative clamp on a ground.

If you're using your car to jump another one, you also clamp directly to your engine's terminals/posts.
I did this recently when jumping my wife's Toyota.

Left the car alone for an hour and a half and it cranked and started up. I got lucky. Almost never happens with this car!
