Oh crap, what did I just hear? Horrible sound after a quick sprint...

I decide to gun it up this big hill near my house coming home from work. It hauls butt, however, when I get close to pulling into the my garage, I hear a weird rattling sound, like a chatter. A loud chatter. The engine also vibrated viciously I recall and when I pressed the gas to accelerate it would make other terrible sounds. It threw a service engine soon code. Will this code be there even though I have a JB4 tune? I want to read it and find out what happened.

Do I need to use Juice Box 4 Performance Tuner or can I read the codes in the dash using the JB4 steering wheel controls?

Thanks

Edit: When I turn the car back on, I don't hear the chattering sound. Clutch cooled down? I also want to say I was doing a pull from 2nd -> 3rd -> 4th where I shut it down. My starting speed was probably 20mph or so.

I would definitely still pull the codes from the jb4 steering wheel controls and look up what they are.

Sounds like a limp mode and you have a bank shut down. Car was running on 3 cyl. If you turn the car off and restart it, everything should have been back to normal. If not, then worry.

That's my thought also.
The chatter was probably DWFW.

Codes pulled from the dash:
29D0 Misfirings, cylinder 4
2D25 Mass Air Flow Excessive

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Those were the two codes I pulled. Nothing else to report...so what do they mean? I just installed my VRSF 7" intercooler last night. Is this related to that?

Plugs were replaced at 87k miles on Nov 19, 2013. I'm at 113k miles. Is that considered old? Should I switch the cylinder 4 coil to another one and see if it throws another code? Should I buy some coils and replace them all? Coils were replaced at 42k miles back in 2010.

Thanks

2D25 is a tune detected code.
For the other one, follow the misfire stickied thread. But yes, start with swapping coils

Start at the plugs since they are cheaper if that doesn't work get new coils.

If the plugs have more than 15k change them, if not swap cyl 4 and 5 coils and see if the misfire follows.

Plugs should be replaced every 25K.

You're problem is likely the coil and it's easy to find out.

Just move the coil to other and see the misfire follows, it's free to try before buying anything.

We offer 6 pack coils and 6 pack plugs OEM Bosch if you need them.

Ok so here is what I tried, Jeff.

I switched the coil that was misfiring in cylinder 4 with cylinder 3. Reset the codes. Drove the car and it threw two more codes:

29D0 Misfire Cyl 4
29CF Misfire Cyl 3

I then switched coils from cylinder 3 with 2, reset codes, drove the car and it threw 29CE Misfire Cycl 2. So that coil 4 that was bad, that I switched with 3 which got switched with 2 ended up throwing a misfire code for cylinder 2 (which again, has the original 29D0 Misfire Cyl 4 coil). It looks like I have one bad coil, at least.

Here is what the coil from original position/cylinder 4 looked like before a good wipe down:

That oil isn't helping, looks like your valve cover gasket may be leaking. So you'll want to look into replacing that too.

How is that possible? I just replaced this using the ECS kit maybe 1.5 months ago (with the help of my mechanic friend). It's not leaking any where else like that silver pan on the turbo side. I'll bet there is oil in holes where the coils go that was never cleaned up. I mean, I don't recall ever sticking towels in there to soak up the oil from the bad VCG. It was a mess prior to tackling this job. I guess I need to pull all the plugs and coils and clean the area?

Sounds like the install of the VC didn't go so well.

I honestly don't think so. I don't ever recall going into the area where the plugs sit and cleaning up. I hope I'm right but I just don't recall it. And it's not leaking any where else. I'll know as soon as I get a replacement coil in there.

Well the only thing you can do at this point is clean the area and inspect after some miles.

If it shows up with oil again then that VCG install didn't go well which is very unfortunate and I feel your pain.
