N55 valves @ 114k miles

I"ve recently bought a 2011 335i sedan with 113k miles. To really see what I'm starting with, I decided to pull the intake and give it a cleaning. This car is completely stock, down to the orig air box and (quite used) paper filter. Yes, I realize it could have been modded, then put back stock, but I don't believe that to be the case.

The first owner had it on a lease and put 60k mi in 2 years and I don't know anything other than that. I did meet with the second owner and do know that the intake was never cleaned over his time (60k - 113k).

While getting to the intake, I also noticed my CP is broken on the outer ring as well as a crack leading from the ring to, and including, the seal.

I"ve got pics of the CP, each intake port, and one shot of the car here:

I got a bit of a late start today and need to get it all cleaned up and back together tomorrow afternoon as well as need to order an aluminum CP.

Cool story bro, this is a N54 sub-forum.

Tough crowd. However, yea this is the N54 section and typically the N55 doesn't see as much carbon build up on the valves as the N54.

Good luck with it OP.

Since we're in the wrong forum, let's discuss. As a platform newbie, why is it that the N55 has less carbon build up than the N54? Is there a single design change, or something that can be done to the N54 to alleviate the severity?

Wow definitely a cheaper version of the far superior N54. It doesn't even require you to spend much money on carbon cleaning.

Far superior? Cheaper? When I see you on the street I will set things right. Then you can tell me about this one guy here with a single turbo N54.
