Diesel vs Petrol prices
Evening all
i have noticed recently that in my area at least, diesel prices are once again north of petrol prices, in some cases by as much as 4p/litre Has something fundamentally happened to reverse the recent dip in diesel prices, or has the "volkswagen effect" been a convenient excuse to fleece us again? Cheers Garry |

Think it's just basic supply and demand, the dip was weird anyway!
Gov force people into diesels one way or another over several years, consequently there's more demand for diesel fuel and more opportunity to get tax revenue from it. It'll all go to shit soon when the health aspects of diesels is thrust more into the limelight , courtesy of the VAG shenanigans . |

Yes apparently it is to do with the demand. I'd read before that the recent slump in diesel prices was due to over supply\lack of demand in China.

What i found odd, was during a recent trip in europe diesel was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than petrol. 10 or 20 euro cents cheaper.
For instance in Germany Diesel was around 1.05 euro and petrol around 1.20. In italy Diesel was around 1.30 and petrol around 1.50. (oddly enough italian petrol was MORE expensive than the UK, which is surprising given we have the highest rates of fuel duty in europe!) If it was simple supply and demand, surely it would be the same everywhere... |

Spain has a huge tax on Petrol as they have no natural oil resource and want to reduce imports, it's proably similar other places.. It's common in Europe to subsidies diesel vs. petrol. This is another brain child of the EU and "climate change" politics. Give everyone lung disease to keep the Co2 down and reduce crude oil usage. Now that the truth about how shit for your health diesel is is coming out, I expect that will be used as an excuse to tax it heavily instead. |

The VPower vs 95RON spread seems to have gone a bit wild as well. When petrol was well into the one-pound-and-teens a litre, VPower was a 7p premium. Now petrol is sub-one-pound-ten the premium is 10p. How does that work?

Premium round here has been 8p for yonks.
Wifes car only runs on VPower due to mapping issues. Once the maps sorted i'll be switching to Sainsburys, as their super is only a 3p premium and the 95ron is cheaper to start with. |
