335i oil cooler pipes but no oil cooler
Hi guys, ive been searching the forums and cant find an answer to my question.
i have a 2006 335i which i bought recently, upon inspecting the engine bay i can see the two large silicone pipes coming out of oil filter housing and going down to the left of the engine bay, this should mean i have an oil cooler right? but when i look in the right side arch liner, i cannot see an oil cooler! there is a small mesh grill but no oil cooler :S. the mesh grill is screwed to the front air duct.. are there any 335i variants that have that have the pipes coming out of the oil filter housing but no oil cooler in the wheel arch liner?? thnx |

Please post a picture of what mesh you're referring to, there is a vent held on by four screws in the wheel well and the oil cooler is right behind that.

Have you looked in front of the radiator?
You have a very early build; the early builds didn't usually get the oil cooler. I'm thinking someone may have retrofit an oil cooler on the car and it's far easier (cheaper) to install one in front of the radiator than do the full factory retrofit in front of the wheel well. |

as im based in the UK, i think the first owner had the option to get an oil cooler fitted under warranty (recall), due to overheating.
i dont see an actual oil cooler on the right side wheel arch. but i do have the two oil pipes going down to that area, is there anything else it can be connected to? thnx |

Take the vent off and have a closer look... There's not much help you can get asking this question, the only thing that can be connected to two lines coming out if your oil filter housing towards the passenger wheel well is an oil cooler.
There's only three possibilities that I can assume: oil cooler, plugged lines where there "was" an oil cooler (unlikely), or just hoses hanging out there (more unlikely), and spilling massive amounts of oil as soon as the engine starts. |
