Safe to drive on a bad vanos solenoid?

I have code 2A82 which means a bad vanos solenoid. I'd have to order the part and wait a week to get it. Is it safe to drive with this? I went into limp mode, that is why I checked. I reset limp mode and everything seems fine.

Also....how do I know if the intake or exhaust solenoid is bad?

Your good to drive it just don't romp on it. Depending on the code it will tell you which one. You can clean it and reinstall and should not throw anymore codes. But might as well replace it price is negligible.

^^ this, had the same problem a couple years ago, you're fine to drive just stay out of the boost.

^^remove, clean with carb cleaner and swap top for bottom and bottom for top.

This should buy you one time. You can buy 2 for less than $250 shipped on AMZN.

Anyone with experience with the one on Amazon? they are made by dorma, and from research on different site, people suggested to go with OEM.

I have clean mine twice, code hasn't come back in months.

My opinion.....don't buy aftermarket. Not when you're screwing with Vanos/engine issues. Bite the bullet and buy the real deal.

Good deal. You will get another 30k from them. Mine have brown/burn market on the seam where the tube goes from thin to thick...I suspect mine are smoked. Gotta buy some new ones. OP, hook these up...it's short money and a quick fix.

Would bad vanos have any correlation to less boost?

I am FBO with JB4, used to boost 17psi on map 5, i noticed lately that boost is only targeting 14-15ish psi. But vanos code hasn't come back.

Bad solenoids can cause the half-engine light which puts the car in limp mode. They also cause rough idle and jerkiness/hesitation at WOT.

I haven't had the code come back in months but noticed during logging that target boost is not as high as it used to be.. I'm hitting target boost but around 15 instead of 17 before

I am in the process of getting tuned. All new plugs, coils and Solenoids.

Tuner said I wasn't hitting target boost either....I just logged and sent them..guaranteed I'm hitting it now.
