Passenger-restraint malfunction
I was driving home tonight and got a "passenger-restraint system" malfunction warning. I've only had my car for less than 2 months and this is the first problem I've had. Well, once about 400 miles ago, the I got a cruise control malfunction warning that turned my cruise off, but I was able to turn it back on right after. I'm gonna take it in to see what this pass. restraint problem is. Anyone else have this problem?

I guess no one has had this problem before. But I got it checked out Monday. I was told that BMW has put out a warning for this with a "temporary" fix. And probably won't have a permanent fix til March. This is what the invoice said:
"PASSENGER RESTRAINT MESSAGE COMES ON. DIS TEST. FAULT FOR DRIVER'S AIRBAG FIRING CIRCUIT. PERFORM 72-10-05. REMOVE STEERING TRIM PANEL AND UNPLUG SLIPRING. PERFORM DIS TEST AGAIN. FAULT GONE. " So today I got the warning message again. I called the service department and he said there's nothing they can really do til BMW comes out with a real fix. He's not sure if the airbag or any of the safety features related to this message will not work or if the warning message is just being triggered when it shouldn't be. He doesn't know and won't know til BMW tells him. This isn't to comforting. Anyone know where to find the official BMW service bulletins? |
