Sat Nav and speed limit display. I assume it works as well with the business Nav as it does with Pro Nav, I've only tried it with Pro.

Adaptive cruise also makes use of it but I'm not sure that's enough reason to add it.

Good choice going for the HUD, it is absolutely brilliant and I can definitely recommend having the Speed Limit Display with it, very useful. I don't have the active cruise control but if you have the standard cruise control and limiter it will display those up in the HUD as well. Though I'm sure the active cruise control looks cooler and is more hands off if you are likely to use it a lot.

Also found the HUD handy as it displays the collision warning symbol up there (big red car) which has been handy once or twice when cars up ahead have inexplicably slowed down considerably without any brake lights coming on.

Ah yes...that's the 4th...Active security pack/Driver assistant.

Although as the others have said SLD is the absolute must with HUD.

Only indirectly as a result of the function ACC performs when set I would have thought? Not sure though

I've had the Active Security Pack but no ACC on my last two cars - The 335d is getting the works though

Yes you do, and cruise does not need to be active for it to be operating.

Do you know if its possible to add speed limit display to the HUD at a later date via software or is it not possible?

Yes but only if you have the Kafas camera that comes with lane departure warning, and even then you have to buy an FSC enabling code which costs a few hundred I believe.

Only if your spec happens to includes options that have the correct cameras for it. The Active security pack/Driver assistant option for example.

You can change the warning distance in iDrive if its a bit overzealous! Mines set to the shortest warning as otherwise its a pita, even then its a bit brake happy sometimes!

Same last June, been a few threads about it since that when you spec extended storage if you also spec any of ACC, FCW, LDW, LCW then you lose the cubby.

Shit IMHO, that whole cubby gone for a few tiny buttons, they could easily have put them elsewhere.

I think so, although the MKI eyeball will also detect an impending collision.

Must admit HUD is the one luxury I went for that I didn't really need because it looks like good useable tech. Haven't got SLD but to be honest I kind of know how fast I should be going ! The nav instructions look cool and seeing radio display etc.

One question - assume you can switch it fully off if you don't want to see it ?
