Loaner Cars for Service

Well I am finally taking my M4 in for the 2000km service. Can't wait to get it back and drive it without worrying about pushing it to hard.

Do the BMW dealers typically give loaners out for the scheduled maintenance? My dealers is saying there is a $25 charge. I've had loaners for free for my Hondas in the past. The shuttle is and option too but I hate being late for work.

Just wondering what others are seeing.
Thanks.

it's a discretionary charge. there are some dealers will insist on the charge while others may waive it (goodwill gesture). All depends on how much dealing you have with your dealer.

For example, Town&Country in Markham will waive the charge if you book your service many weeks in advance so that they will give you a free loaner for the day. If you book your appointment within days, then they will charge you (normally).

My dealership told me about the $25 charge when I booked my 2000km service as well, but they never actually charged me for it.

Indeed, depends on your relationship with your SA.
This is my 4th car with them, so if I ask, I get a BMW loaner.

i was told they don't provide loaners for routine scheduled maintenance - i asked them to check again since this is an M car - they agreed to provide a free loaner for 2000km service

That's odd, there shouldn't be a charge for a loaner vehicle, because after all it is a "courtesy vehicle" so I don't see where that $25 fee goes to... Here at McKenna we offer a wide variety of loaner vehicles ranging from 2's to X6's, and we never charge our clients, we do however put a $100 hold but that's about it.

US has a different policy. Canada is too cheap as we are just 2nd class citizen compared to US. Actually, the courtesy vehicle used to be free and usually they are the 3 series, x1 and x3 with the ultra rare x5 and 5 series. The charge started in Canada about 4 years ago as one dealer started charging and then it spread to other dealerships. Typcially, for non bmw loaners, they are $25; bmw loaners $40 - $45 per day + gas. However, some dealers will waive the charge on case by case basis, which may be subject to your past & current relationship with the dealers.

Calgary BMW charges the $25 for as long as they have your car.
But there is a $15/day for insurance.
